And here I thought you would be linking to Slo-Mo, who does just this sort of thing.

Thanks for sharing! That Teisco Electric Guiter is a classic, made back when "Made in Japan" didn't have the same meaning it does now.

Mick, when lap steel meets Hip-Hop, you get: THIS

Yup, that's Slo-Mo (with steeler Mike Brenner). I'll be doing a concert with them, plus Susan Alcorn and The Campbell Brothers, here in Philly on Sept 19. More details here: http://tickets.worldcafelive.com/eventperformances.asp?evt=2544

Thanks for posting the link to Slo-Mo. I have been playing lap steel on hip hop songs for about 2 years with a local studio, and thought I was kind of alone in the endeavor. It is a difficult style to fit a steel in until you get a grip on the limitations, so you can find the space. Slo Mo seems to have nailed it down a lot better than I have. Back to the woodshed...

Hmmmmm, ....the Steel looks like the one Flash Gordon played on 'Funky Cold Medina' Cool !

------------

Good to see such open-minded comments, ...even though I personally find it very difficult to find much musical value at all in Hip Hop (although no shortage of social & cultural statement / art form). But Tone Loc was da man there for awhile...imho; And Slo-Mo's got that thang goin' too. Ain't music (and sociology) a trip ! ?
