Alan Jackson's 29th #1 song today! Congratulations!
For those that own this CD. Which song would you pick to be the next release? |

Theresa.......if it was me that called the shots it would be "Long Long Way".
This song is the 'ole country and western sound IMO.
There are a couple good cd's out from C&W singers that try to get the old sound back into the charts.
Alan Jackson and Mark Chesnutt are a couple good one's.

Hey Ron,
Wouldn't it be great to hear the musicians taking a ride on Commerical Radio?
Thanks Alan!
P.S.
I really like, "I Still Like Bologna"! Great playing! |

Theresa......IMO this cd is one of the best I've heard in a loooong time.Unfortunately we don't call the shots when it comes to airplay.
Wouldn't that be a rude awakening for the record industry if we did huh?

Theresa is right when it comes to Alan Jackson. Not only is the cd very very good(and do I recommend this one when you are in the market for a new cd)but the musicians on this cd are by far the best out there.
I am posting the steel guitar solo(with permission)Paul Franklin played on the song "Listen To Your Senses".
Talk about subtle pickin'.Warm, sensuous and it sounds like a pedal steel guitar should sound.
Paul's Solo - Listen To Your Senses
Paul.....I commend you for your wonderful steel playing on this cd.....thumbs up....big time.

It's funny- in a world where solid state is the generally accepted amplification for PSG, you really can tell Paul records with tubes! It's got that warmth and smoothness that you can't hear so much in a solid state amp. _________________ James Collett |

Nice clip, perfect mandolin/steel break - if that ain't country music, I don't know what is. Sorta reminds me of the feel of some of the old Merle Haggard material. Guess I have to get up to Wally World. |

Unless it's a known fact that PF "records with tubes,"I wouldn't be sure I could make that call on any given solo. James, you either have a solid state bias, better ears than most, or both. |

Barry, straight from his website-
Quote: |
Equipment - Franklin steel guitars loaded with Bill Lawrence pickups. Paul also uses the Mesa Boogie studio preamp, Mos Valve 500 poweramp, Melobar Teleratt and Melobro, Fender Tele and Strat, Marrs speaker cabinets, Peavey 112 amplifier, Fluger 8-String Dobro and MSA Lap Steel. |
The Mesa preamp and MV 500 make up his recording gear, or so I've read in many-a-place. And to me, it does sound more tubey than most.
But now, back on topic, fantastic solo! _________________ James Collett |

Ron,
When you hear a break like that, it almost makes you cry, thinking of how many songs could be made better with the type of playing Paul, and others are capable of adding.

James, this is exactly why I excused myself in my opening statement, "Unless it's a known fact that PF "records with tubes," .... Apparently, it is a known fact, except to me. Also, I agree with Damir, the Lloyd Green influence is very obvious on this solo, tone excepted. |

Barry, if I came across a little bit rudely, I apologize- looking at my word choice, it appears slightly curt. This, of course, was not really the case- BTW, I'm tubes ALL THE WAY _________________ James Collett |

James, I didn't take it that way at all, so no apology needed. I'm not necessarily pro tube OR solid state, just whatever gives you what you're looking for, tone-wise. |
