Rudy Wairata

Post by Ron ! »

I promised you guys a couple life samples of Rudy's playing. It took me some time to find these on my computer but I finally tracked them down.
I don't know when these tracks are recorded but what I do know is that "Victor and Mieke Gout" were the ones that did the vocals.Possibly the whole band from that era are the ones that did this performance.
I do not think that these recordings ever been published.
I came to the conclusion to post these because of the fact that Hawaiian music is in a recession and we have to do something to get it out of there.
besides that.....Rudy was a true wizard and people should remember his name.

Track 1

Track 2

Track 3

Track 4

After long talks back and forth to The Netherlands I finally traced the little video clip on which Rudy Wairata, George,Peter and family The Fretes are playing side by side. This is clip will be posted on You-Tube as soon as I get it.Unfortunately it will not be available for downloading.

In the mean time enjoy Rudy Wairata

Ron

P.S

More to come soon so keep this post in mind.

Not sure about the make. But I have seen him playing a Fender stringmaster....8 string. This guitar mysteriously vanished of the face of the earth after he died.
Some people have some idea's where it is but it is just speculations and thats why I will not touch that one with a 20-foot pole.

May I add my thanks, Ron. This man should certainly be remembered. Lovely touch: he's not "playing" the guitar, he's one with it. Reminds me a bit of Benny Rogers; don't know enough to say why, but can't say better than that!

I believe he was originally from Indonesia, and went over to the Netherlands where he really made it big in the Hawaiian scene there ! Even though Hawaii is a lot closer to Indonesia than Holland :D
