Topic: Where do I begin. |

I have been a long time fan of music I have owned many insturments but never found one that felt right to me. One day while researching pedal steels I ran into:

This video and was moved by the tone and the overall sound it left an impression on me. I had never heard of Lap Steels before.
Well I made my way to this forum and read a variety of topics. Eventually I decided to save up and buy one. After months I scraped enough and went for a Chandler RH-2.
My question is what now. I'm not a well versed musician and I have no idea where to even start or what else I should buy.
I have bought the Lap Steel
GS1 Dobro
Finger/thumb picks
Tuner
I dont think I'll find any classes for lap steel so any good books or dvd's you all recomend?
Also I'm into alternative rock mostly but I love all types of music from country to folk from decades old to new.
Is there anyway i can get my RH2 to have that type of sound?

Thank you for that. Also one more question I'm looking for a gig bag to fit my chandler but I think standard guitar gig bags may be too large. Any suggestions?

| The Chandler's shape may limit what you can find useful, but usually, a baritone uke soft case/gig bag works for things like a Bakelite shape. You'll have to shop around with your guitar in hand. |

Welcome, Antonio.
You don't indicate where in California you're located, but the Online Steelers web site may help you find a fellow steel player near you.
I think you have all the basics (steel bar, picks, tuner). Of course, you'll need some sort of amplifier if you don't already have one.
I think the Chandler will fit well within the types of music you want to play. it has a pretty full range of tones available through the default pickup.
Chandler makes a lap steel case that fits perfectly. I see them here and there for around $170 or so.

Mmmmmm....Chandler. You've made a great choice for a first instrument. My favorite. I suggest Scotty's music for Scotty's intruction book and tabs. This is not the kind of music that you mentioned liking. But it will help you find your way around the neck. And it is at your current level.
