Monday night (July 21th) we had the pleasure to see "Asleep at the Wheel" in Germany.
As we all know they hit Germany only every 50 years. It was the only gig in Germany and good luck for me next to my door.
On the steel guitar they had the great Eddie Rivers. What an experience and an inspiration.
For the first time I saw a first class old school steeler live in person. Wow.
Monday night I learned a lot about the lap steel guitar. Thank you Eddie !
Thomas
P.S: I saw miles and miles of Texas ...
P.S: Cindy and Chris what about you ???

Eddie is a great addition to AATW. Heard him last summer up here in Wisconsin. He recieved applause after every solo. Eddie had spent the 25 plus years prior to AATW playing around southern WI. I had the pleasure of playing fiddle on numerous gigs with Eddie before he left a huge void when he headed for Austin. Check out his licks on the two most recent Wayne Hancock CDs. Or the Western Box Turtles CD.
We miss him. |

Yes he's a great Boots Randolph style sax player and a great singer. It would be great to get him to the ISGC. |

Thanks for the pictures, Thomas. I can't quite tell if he is playing a single or double neck. I would be surprised if he used only one neck, but perhaps you can tell us? |

It's a Deluxe 8, single-neck... the giveaway is the jack on the audience side. Three legs also specific to the model. Looks like poly finish, post-CBS guitar. _________________ Too much junk to list... always getting more. |

...yes it's a Fender Deluxe 8 single-neck. I think on the short tours throughout Europe he only takes light luggage. Anyway, what he does with a single neck guitar is amazing.
I didn't miss more necks. |

I was also at this gig (nice to know I'm not the only steel player in Augsburg).
Many of you will laugh but this was the first time I have seen a steel player live! The fact that AATW even played in this club was impressive enough but that they brought a classic player with them really made it a fantastic night for me.
Thomas, we should hook up. I need all the steel help I can get!
