We want a new cd/dvd recorder simple enough for us elderly to use yet priced so we can afford. We would like to record TV shows that come on after our bedtime so we can play them later when it's more convenient. We want to keep it simple and cheap using RW disks. We want one that we can plug one end in the wall and the other end into our TV and enjoy the show, and rent a movie once in a while. There are so many choices out there we don't know what to look for. Think of it as something you would recommend gor your grandpaw & grandma.
Thanks, Al
dvd/cd player/recorder

Al, there are many out there. All the "standalone" DVD recorders will do what you want. I don't know about a CD/DVD recorder but there are probably some around. If you are just wanting to record TV and play recorded DVD's all you need is a DVD recorder.
If you are a Sam's club member, check them out at Sam's in Ocala. They have a couple in there and the prices are reasonable, including a nice Sony model the last time I was in there. You can buy the Recordable DVD's there too, just make sure you get the type that are compatible with whatever DVD recorder you get. There are DVD-R and DVD+R (and the RW type). Just remember the RW (rewriteable) types are not good forever.
Check the Sunday newpaper ad's too as places like Circuit City and Best Buy usually have them on sale.

Good advice Jack.
We just bought a new cordless phone system and if you can find a clerk who knows what he is talking about that will help also.
Because my 1st trip to Best Buy I bought what I thought would work. I was wrong and ended up going back and found a clerk who helped us buy what I was looking for the 1st time. I could have saved myself a 70 mile round trip if I had only asked for help.
