Just listened to Bill Hatcher's very fine treatment of Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring. Really lovely, Bill. Just to confirm, was that just steel and bass guitar, or were you really playing all those bass notes on the steel... NO!? Either way, really nice!

I'm also really enjoying Michael Barone's cut.

Great Great steel playing by everyone on this site. I am experimenting a little...I have converted my E9th tuning to just a non-pedal tuning but I am keeping my C6th neck as is. I still don't know if I want the E13 or the E7th but I'll come up with something.

Howard Tate-I heard your song "Don't close Your Eyes". It sounds really nice, I wish the steel was a little louder in the mix.The melody reminds me of "For the Good times"?
I sent my new song "Here's That Rainy day" To Charles Tilley. Hope he gets time to post it today.

Reece had that on his first LP "Modern Steel Guitar". I think b0b still has that in his catalogue.

Back about 69' 70' I went to Dallas to get a new D12 MSA, Curly was there picking up his 2 D10's,and Reece tried to show me how to play it on his Bb6maj7 S12 tuning. I didn't know the song hardly so couldnt hack it right at he time.
A while ago, I tried to record the song with Band in a Box, but it came out distorted in the mix.
So I made a solo of it direct into "Line in" on the computer with just my old Crate Amp 12 inch speaker. no effects and no Retakes so there might be a few flubs in it.LOL....Thanks Again Tilley for having this Website for us all to enjoy....al.:)

Great sound everyone...I just listened to Heres That Rainy Day by Al Marcus and Gene Jones Boot Hill Drag some mean sounding C6th playing there. Mike Headrick sounds like an E9th wizard with I Love You A Thousand Ways...I can hear him using the knee levers the good ole classic way on that tune...beautiful sound and mix on your song Charles Tilley...very clean E9th playing.

John and Vernon, thank you for posting your versions of those songs that you recorded. They are classics that everyone enjoys listening to.

Thank you also for your kind remarks about my recent submission, "Boothill Drag". Purists may not like it because I omitted the low string "drag" that was on the original recording. It was a signature lick that I probably should have included, but that was the only thing about the song that I didn't like. I have to add that Herb is one of my hero's.

Remember when the Disc-Jockeys use our tunes to open and close their shows. Now a days you never hear a good instrumental tune on Radio.
Bring back the old days and tell us who we are listening to.

Vern Hester-you did a great job on that Ricky, on that old classic,and I liked the old boo-wah we use to use with that tone control. Why dont the builders put back that TONE CONTROL.?

John McGlothlin-That old song sure sounded good, A real clssic too.Nice Harmonics. What happended to Harmonics today? We dont hear it very much any more.

I dont get to hear as many as I would like, but trying to find the time to catch them all...thanks Tilley...al.:)

Charles, many thanks for posting my first song on the Lap Steel.
I am finding the Lap a pleasure to play, with a warmer sound, different tech, and a few tips from my friend, Basil, and much lighter than the pedal.
When I get a little better, I shall need to get an 8 string, as Basil suggested, once again, thank you Charles for your time and patients, Slim Pickins.

Thanks Basilh,I will admit, I am trying at times, but with a six string it's a bit constricting, so I will have to find an eight string, and try to improve.
If my age lets me I will try to become as good as you, but I don't think I have the time.
Mind, if I do get better I may come to you seminars.
