the power amp section is 6 tubes large on the Fender Super Twin .. any one
think this is a good steel amp? |

Yes, there are some players that really like them - David Doggett has talked about these frequently as a good Fender loud-and-clean alternative to the high-power Peavey steel guitar amps. He also suggests splitting the combo versions into a head/cab version.
Do a forum search with the string super AND twin and you'll find a bunch of threads on this. Add David Doggett to the username search and that will narrow it down more clearly.
My own view - properly set up, they are very powerful, very clean all the way to the top, and have good tone control and great classic Fender Reverb. They are also very heavy, need really good quality tubes that are clean and can handle a high plate voltage, and are fairly expensive to keep up. But if you want Session 500 or Nashville 1000 type volume in a classic Fender tube tone, they are very nice. |

I think it's the best one ever made (thanks to the graphic equalizer). It has tremendous power, but will give you solid bass-filled tones at even the lowest volume - and you simply can't get that with any other amp. UnGODly heavy, though. Actually, I'm a big proponent of using graphic EQ's to get dozens of unique tones from the same guitar (rather than using 20 different guitars). Few people agree with me on that, a fact for which I'm quite thankful.  |
