Surprise of my life, but it's true. I received a letter today announcing that on 10/5/08 I will be inducted into California's Western Swing Hall of Fame. This is such an unexpected honor, for once I'm almost at a loss for words (almost Smile ).

My folks were inducted way back in the '80's, (Mom for her Pedal Steel playing Smile ), so it's starting to look like a family tradition Smile

There will be 4 days of great swing music in the first weekend of Oct. to mark the induction celebrations for 2008, and I'll post something as time gets closer, but something just made me want to share this news with my forum buddies!

I must thank Bobby Black, Jimmy Fox and Lucky Oceans for sharing their steel tips with me when I just a skinny kid starting out with my wobbly used Sho~Bud Permanent D10.
Smile

Dave,

Congratulations and it is so great to have you join us in the Western Swing Hall of Fame. I sure wish that I could make it there this year but 2004 was very special when I was inducted. I hope that it is as special to you. You sure deserve it.

Congratulations David. You didn't get a chance to play much swing stuff when you were down here for the jam. We have to fix that next year.

Please tell us more abut your mother.

Hey, thanks so much guys! I know it seems like a long time to Oct., but I expect it will be just enough time for me to rehearse my hinnie off to get ready for that one hour set in the "Hall of Fame Band" that follows the induction festivities, I know the pickers that played in it last year were really great!

Sorry I'll be in Oregon for the N. CA steel jam, but Mike P., I'll try to talk some of my fellow "Northerners" to fly south for the next Perl jam! Peter, looking forward to hearing what a year of dedication will do to your super clean playing... keep up the good work!

Billy, I'll still keep my fingers crossed you can make it back to Sacramento, last time you sat in was such a treat! And Mike G., work is progressing on the latest Stardust Cowboys CD, and I'm hoping we can get you a mix of some songs soon, and thanks so much for your support... I'll say hey to Jay Riley for you.

David P., we could do some polkas Smile , and Jim there's a ton of steelers up here that don't know what a real sweet Emmons sounds like.

Dave Z., work is steadily progressing on the "T-Slapper" pedal lap steel... you will be pleased when you see it Smile ; and Greg, give me a call next time your up visiting the home folks!.... hope your band is still burning 'em up in the south land!

Thanks again guys Smile

Dave,

Thanks ever so much both for sending my best to Jay and also for mentioning the new Stardust Cowboy CD. I am really looking forward to start playing that one on the air waves. Again, good luck!!!!

Thanks so much Jody and Doug. Doug that night in Portland I had the time of my life, and I owe Dave Graf big time for introducing me to you and your fellow steelers up there.... someday I mean to make it up to one of your steel jams, sounds like a load of fun, and a good chance to hear you pick that sweet PSG again!

Hey Chris, thanks so much buddy, I can't wait to hear what Bob Woods has to say Smile

Congradulations David:
This is a great honor and you will relish it.
I had this honor bestowed on me back in 1992 when I was inducted along with Bobby Black and Peewee Whitewing. Jay Riley really makes you feel at home and part of the Sacramento WSS family. Enjoy !

Thanks so much Billy. Yes, you're right about Jay Riley, he's not only a great steeler player, he's one heck of a nice guy too! (and boy howdy you should see his LP/Cassette/CD collection! Smile ).

It is very humbling to be included in this Hall of Fame with so many all time great musicians!
