Erv's tab for this month is for America The Beautiful.

He graciously sent me the tab and I tried it out last night. I made a few changes to suit my tastes and I liked it pretty well.

I thought I'd try a quick background track in Band In A Box but there's one measure that I can't quite get the chords to sounds like I want.

[pre]
"A - bove the fruit - ed plains."
b7° 57 1#° 27 5
[/pre]

Obviously I'm using the Nashville number system here but my 1#° chord is not quite right. I've tried 67, 6m, 6m7 (all kinds of 6 chords) but I can't get the sound I want and I don't have any sheet music to analyze for this one.

Any other suggestions? I want 4 chords in this measure.

It's measure 9 in the picture.

Chord-melody wise, I hear bar 9 as | F-Abdim-F C7add9 C7 |, | F-Fdim-F C7add9 C7 |, or | F-F(b5)-F C7add9 C7 |. In the first one, I'm playing the F as the first inversion triad. In the second one, the F is just the root-first triad. The F dim is the same as F(b5) except the third is lowered in the dim. All sound fine to me.

I would probably also change bar 10 to something like | Cm7 F7 | or | Cm7add11 F7 | to avoid monotony with all those F chords.

This song really lends itself well to chord-melody arrangements, either on guitar or pedal steel.
