Can anyone tell me what product is used on threads to keep them snug yet adjustable. An exact example are the adjusting screws under an Emmons. They have a redish colored substance on them. I was thinking of a Loctite product but wouldn't know which one. Need some input. Thanks, Loren.

I have not found a Loctite product that will set up dry on a screw until it is threaded into another part. I to would like to know where to get this product which I also believe to be a liquid nylon.

I have heard of a product called Vibratite that as I understand is similar to Locktite except that retains some pliability/malleability so it allows for re-adjustment of the threaded parts. I just Googled it and found this:

http://www.rmoreau.com/OLDSITE/ndpage7.htm

under the features heading it says:
"Offers Multiple Reuses: Using steady pressure and standard hand tools, parts coated with Vibra-TiteĀ® can be easily adjusted, removed, and reused- again and again."

I think this would be a better choice than Locktite, which is designed for semi-permanent assemblies.

and it's RED!!!

John, that vibratite stuff looks like it could be the cigar. I'll look into it. Thanks.

Beware when buying Loctite as it comes in both red and blue colors. However the bottle for the blue is a red color. Dont buy the blue bottle as the heavy duty red comes in it. You want a mess? mistakenly use the red Whoa! The trick with blue Loctite is to coat your screws and leave them out overnight to dry. They will retain the added circumference much better then when installed in your guitar.
