There is a show currently on "R.F.D. T.V." called the "Johnny High Country Show" that features Maurice Anderson as the staff steel player. Fine playing especially on the occasional swing tune where he really shines! I did notice him playing a D-10 (M.S.A. of course), I thought he was strictly a U-12 player?

If we are really nice, we might get Reece to tell us about his Fender 1000.

David - Although Reece is a "pioneer" of the U-12 Bb6 tuning and plays it as well as anyone ever has, he is equally at home on pretty much any tuning he chooses, including E9/C6 or E9/B6 universal. Have you heard him play the 12-str. non-pedal tuning he developed? He is a true genius of the steel guitar IMO. Smile jc

I was lucky enough to see Reece playing live in the house band in the Johnny High show earlier this year. I was very surprised to see and hear his E9 playing - he was playing quite a few country licks behind the various stage singers. He was playing a black MSA Studio Pro. Of course, when he played C6 in a few of the numbers his playing was astounding as it normally is when he is in swing mode.

I have to agree with Jody Cameron's appraisal of the great man. He is a phenomenal musician, and a nice guy with it.

I did not mean to intimate that Mr. Anderson was not equally at home on any tuning. As to his playing a D-10, the question was mostly to satisfy my own curiousity. I have not had the pleasure of hearing him play live, but all photos I have seen were of him sitting behind a U-12, thus the comment.

My mistake, Reece said that was a Fender 800 and he thinks it was the first one made. My minds eye remembers him behind a blonde multi-neck. Oh well, my memory isn't what it used to be.

I spoke to Reece a while back and asked why he was using a D-10 on the show. He told me he was promoting the Studio Pro, but that his first love will always the U-12.

I was also pleasantly surprised to see Maurice on the Johnny High Country Show playing a D 10. There would never have been doubt that he could do it, it's just that I have seen him for years on a Bb universal or a super slide. He was simply playing what the show called for. Maurice is a gentleman and an extremely talented player and I have a lot of respect for him.

If you guys saw the early shows on Johnny High, Milo Deering was playing fiddle with that group. He is also a very fine steel player, and played on Lee Ann
Rymes early stuff. I will say this, I think that band is as good as any in the metromess.
