Don't take this the wrong way, but couldn't we have a little MORE Buddy Emmons and LESS Johnny Bush? It's not that we don't all love Johnny Bush (by the way, we don't all love Johnny Bush...) we drag ourselves to St. Louis to hear Buddy and the steel guitar, not to listen to endless croaked out versions of "Whiskey River." I and many people I've sat near over the years regard him as a frustrating distraction.

I haven't missed a show for years, but I'm still waiting to hear anything at this convention besides utterly traditional, white boy, haven't changed a lick in 50 years country music. Why not make a great weekend better and include the rest of the steel guitar world as well?

Bob : Fortunatly there are many who still like Johnny Bush,Buddy is one of them..Johnny may not be the Johnny of old but he's still old Johnny with a lot more to add than just whiskey River...Johnny does not dominate the convention but lends his history to a portion singing and appearing with his friends who have been his friends through the years...Buddy usually gets all the playing time he wants and enjoys backing up his long time friend...

Bob, I too thought it was listed by now.

To my understanding Buddy isn't going.

Who is on the main stage this year?

The silence is deafening

Seriously, isn't the unconfirmed schedule usually posted long before now?

Well, My first show was a year after Buddy was supposedly through doing them-so I've enjoyed them all anyway, and the chances I've had to see him have been great. I gather from posts he won't be there, but who else is missing?

Sure would be nice if we had a lineup to chew on. Really, in the past it's been up months early.

Doggone it! I wrote a nice long posting about the players schedule and for some reason I don't see it as being posted. All I will say now is that I plan to post the schedule by Monday, July 14th. Scotty

Scotty,
I just happened to be passing through here.
You mentioned that you lost one of your posts.
I think this fell out of your pocket.
I found it on the floor, in another thread.

I'm pleased to announce that the players schedule is 95% confirmed now. St. Louis is unique in several ways. We are dedicated to get as many of the top name players on the show as we can. One problem is getting some players to confirm this far in advance. However, I will do my best to post the players schedule by Monday, July 14h. I just now got a phone call from Dee Floyd and he has confirmed that he will be here. I mention it now as Dee has only one arm. The only are he has is the one on the right side. He will real good and will even play harmonics! All with only one hand! You got see it to believe it! We have many more surprises. Several are surprise guests and I'm not at liberty to mention their names.

At one time I made an announcement that it is time to find new hero's. I take back that statement! The new hero's are already here! Among the new players who do you think deserves to be one of "our new hero's"? And give them the publicity they so richly deserve? This doesn't mean we should not forget hero's like Buddy Emmons, Lloyd Green and I could go on and on. And so could you. Scotty

Does Tom Brumley ever get invited to play the ISGC? Or...does he not wish to play the ISGC? I ask since he is in Missouri, and so is the convention, but I don't recall him being on the stage in recent years.

He was there a few years ago with his band.

It's true that we need some new heroes. But, fact that the numbers have dwindled as a result of age, death and the lack of competitive live and studio creativity at the Nashville level. If you didn't live and learn through the 60's, 70's and 80's, you missed it.
Looking at Buddy's recent and sudden changes in his life, it's understandable that he opts to sit out. Buddy and Lloyd certainly have nothing more to prove. And if they play again in the future, everyone should be standing when they walk on stage and standing once again when they leave the stage.
At this point, those that can copy can be admired. Those that can create something new and inspiring will forge ahead and become a new hero.
If you can afford the higher travel expenses, support the man (Scotty) for hosting and organizing all of those great years and memories of past shows. He still brings you the best that's available.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I remember Tom Brumley being there every year I've gone since the early '90s and in that time I've only missed one year

As promised, here is the schedule for the I.S.G.C. this year. However, I’m sorry to say that the list still is not complete. I am waiting for several steel players to get back with me with their confirmation. If you do not see the name of your favorite steel player on the schedule it doesn’t mean that they are not coming. He could be one of the players that I am waiting for a reply. With the exception of these players that will not be at the Convention. Some due to ill heath and a few that cannot get out of their playing obligations. Buddy Emmons, Paul Franklin, Herb Remington, and Dee Floid. So this is far from being the final schedule but I did promise to let you know today about the Schedule. Scotty

Here is an update on the players for 2008. Dee Floid had to cancel by the request from his doctor. He is not physically able to make the trip to St. Louis. Dee was the one armed steel player.

Often time Scotty is constrained by the players' schedules. Nevertheless, I'll stay to hear Mike play on Sunday.

Also, glad to see we'll be "Hamin' it up" on Saturday!!
