Annoying IE 7 Feature

When I open multiple browser windows and am viewing only one somehow another will refresh or finish loading in THEN it "takes over" the screen or opening all on its own. I think I've searched in the MS Help section of both XP Pro and IE but so far nothing seems to address this specificially. Of course I might no but using the correct search terms.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions to correct this------it's driving me nuts!!

I've been using I.E.7 for about two years and never saw that happen.

In I.E.7, click on Tools then Internet Options then click on the Advanced Tab and then click on "Restore Advanced Settings" then Click Apply and then close the Windows. Close I.E.7 and then restart I.E.7 and see if that does anything for the multiple tab problem.

Thanks for the reply Jack but I might not be explainging my experience/observation clearly. I don't have a problem with the miltiple tabs function---that is under control.

If I have SGF here open, reading etc and also open eBay as well but return to SGF while eBay loads in to my default opening page. At some point eBay's page will suddenly appear as though I have clicked on it's tab in my task bar, bottom of my screen. This happens with all websites, no exceptions, which makes me believe this is a function of IE 7 as I cannot recall this happening a few years ago.

I did find a feature that allows enabling/disabling "page transitions" but don't think that addresses my issue here. Realistically this is nothing more than annoying but gosh I'd sure like it to just stop!! Winking

Eliminate any and all annoyances with IE by switching to a better browser, less vulnerable to all the various spyware/malware/malicious attacks of whatever kind.

Firefox - it may not do everything better (none will), but it does lots of things very well. And, you can benefit by the free plugin Adblock, which can easily rid you of unwanted advertising images and pop-ups permanently.

Still, reset the Advanced options. They tend to cause or affect many operations in Internet Explorer.

But, I've never had or heard of the problem you are having. I see a lot of posts every day on the Dell users forum and I don't ever recall this being posted as a problem.

It sounds like J.W. is experiencing a event known as document.onload.focus(). This is a JavaScript function that says once a page reports that all components have been fully loaded give it focus. This same event would cause both a new tab or window to be brought into focus as soon as it finishes loading. I think this behavior can be disabled in your IE options, so that new tabs don't get focus until you click on them. I don't think a new window can have focus disabled though. The best available option is to open links in a new tab in the same browser window, and not give them focus.

I have found the Tab behavior options for IE 7. With the browser open click on Tools, then Internet Options. On the opening page, in the bottom "Tabs" section labeled "Change how web pages are displayed in tabs," click on the "Settings" button.

When the Tabbed Browsing Settings options opens you can make these selections/deselections and apply them:

Check: "Enable Tabbed Browsing"
Uncheck: "Always switch to new tabs when they are created"
Choose if you want to "Open new tabs next to the current tab"
Select: Open links from other programs in: "A new tab in the current window."
Click OK to save and close the Tabbed Browsing Options.
Click OK again to close the Internet Options.

Hey Wiz---------you're an absolute genius! I did as you suggest and it cured the problem immediately. I thank you and Jack both for your input--I knew you'd have the answer.

I'm always amused by those who, upon discovering one minor issue, quickly want to blow it all away and try replacing it with something "new" or different. Maybe I'm foolish but MicroSoft does have some very useful features and being a novice I don't need every new bell and whistle to think I'm doing well.
