feedback on feedback

Post by Rob McKeithen »

Hey Guys,
Regal dobro
Goodrich volume pedal
Schatten p/u
Crate 6110 60 W amp

when playing on stage with lead and bass I can't use enough volume to get in the game with them. Does anyone have suggestions? I'll take 'em all! Thanks! Rob

It's not really ethical but.................

I'd first, distract them by shouting and pointing to something on the other side of the venue.

THEN, I'd reach over and pull there power plug. It works.......

Well, whenever I hit a clam, I pointed at the bass player and started laughing!
You're most likely gonna need a "feedback killer."

Oh gosh! We all walked off stage one night because of the afflicted drummer!

Playing a resonator guitar with a loud electric band is near futile. Search the forum for many threads on this topic.

Watch the great Jerry Douglas, he stands way off to one side, and the stage volume is low. The band is all acoustic. Allison Kraus and Union Station.

Resonator guitars RESONATE...aka feedback.
Gotta have a band that will cooperate.

My opinion only.

If the band is so loud they drown you out, they need to turn down and use some dynamics. Or you could switch to electric lap steel and turn up.

Mic your amp or use the direct out if equipped and dial a bit of your rig into the monitor mix so you can hear yourself. I would also consider a LR Baggs acoustic preamp/direct box as it has a notch filter for feedback elimination. They work great.

Your Crate should have plenty of power but I'm using a Fishman Loudbox 100 with the LR Baggs and have no issues with feedback using acoustic instruments.

He didn't have any problems being heard when he played with Paul Simon, using the Fishman pickup and Aura pedal:

Thanks Guys!
One thing I love about the forum is the humor!
Thank you for your help and a laugh or two!
I think I can use some of the solutions and will be back in a few days to report the results.
