I have been searching for tone and I have the GeorgeL SS-10 in my SD-10 Rains. Did I get a odd pickup. What did you get and why.

Rick, I have an E-66 in my Rains, it was there when I bought it. I think it sounds great, wouldn't change it.

I changed out my original PU for a Tonealigner. I liked it so much, I put one in my Emmons SD-12 PP, as well. As far as the best tone, I really think that they are all somewhat similar in sound. There are just way too many factors involved. But to be able to adjust the highth of each pole, of a PU, has to be an advantage. Besides, a Rains is a fantastic instrument ! I have learned that experimentation is part of the deal. Have fun.
Regards, J. W.

Mine had a lawrence 704 but it was a bit too powerful and was distorting at the top end, have put an e66 on and that hase cured the problem .

The SS-10 pickup is a little to punchy. I think I will put in a E66 and see what that does. Thanks for all the feedback Very Happy

I've tried a GL 10-1, a GL E-ON. They both sounded pretty good, but I have since gone back to Wallace Truetones (17.5K). I don't think anything sounds like them - IMHO.

I sat in on a friends Rains with Tonealigners and it sounded fine.

I would also suggest XR-16'S or BL710'S

Truetones would be good but you may have hum problems like I did if you play a lot of different clubs.
