My wife and I have just returned from our annual trek to Branson, MO. Last year while there we discovered Ricky Boen and Texas Mud. For those who love Texas western swing with twin fiddles, this show is a must. We were really excited about seeing the show again this year. What a wonderful and most welcomed surprise to find that Dave has been added to the show. And listen to this - he plays a lot!!
If you plan a trip to Branson this year you must include Ricky Boen and Texas Mud and enjoy the incredible steel playing of Dave Musgrave. I had the opportunity to visit with him during intermission and found him to be a super person as well as a super picker. We need to promote shows like this.

Hey, Bill; Where in Branson is this show performing? That's getting to be quite a place to move around in. I ran into Roger Blevins two years ago with the Baldnoggers Show at their own Club. Also a fine steel picker..thanks, Bernie Rolling Eyes

Dave Musgrave is one of my favorites in Branson. I consider him a friend and I just flat outright like the guy. Roger Blevins name was also mentioned and he is another of my favorite people in Branson. These are two fine players and really great people and a couple of the most friendly down to earth guys you will ever meet.

Bernie, the Texas Mud show is in the Hamner Barber theater. It is easily located. The show is at
10:00 in the morning Monday through Friday.
Jerry, you are right on target about Dave. He will love greeting any steel player who comes to the show.
You might be interested in his setup. He is playing and old old Emmons D-10. He told me he bought this guitar years ago and it stayed in his mother's home for years. The guitar was built before knee levers were used. He added them later.
He is using a Nashville 112 and no effects. The tone is just amazing. I asked the sound man if he were not adding a little reverb or delay and he said no.
I really appreciated the fact that Dave was featured so much during the show. Some shows include a steel player but you don't hear much out of him.

Dave is a true treasure to the history of Steel Guitar. In the early days he was one of Shot's boys and did demo work for Sho Bud. Man the stories he can tell you. Plus a super picker and gentleman.

Is he also still with The Gene Williams Show there in Branson ?? I figured he was the connection for our club getting the theater for this year's July show.

Bill, thanks for the info about Dave. I met him 18 or so years ago when he worked with Rogers. Dave was using a Sho-Bud at that time. Dave came to our apartment in Pa at that time and show me a million licks. I should have taped them! Dave is a straight forward guy and like him a lot. His kind remarks encouraged me to push on. I lost track of him after that other than hearing he worked with Ray Price for a bit. Wished he'd come to Texas for a bit so we could connect.

I was playing Steel in the lounge in the casino in Laughlin Nevada, I can’t remember what it was called then, it’s been a while back but it belonged to Mr. Laughlin and its was in the hotel just before the crane fell off it and killed some people on the ground.
Dave was playing with Ray Price in the theater above us. Ray and the band were doing a radio interview in the lounge during our show.
On the break Dave noticed that I had my amp turned sideways on its left side and he ask me why and I explained that I didn’t have room enough to set it up right.
He told me that the oil in the capacitors would run to the left side and my amp and it would start sounding bad.
When he was down in the lounge the next day he noticed that I had my amp setting sideways on its right side.
Dave said
“I see you turned your amp so the oil in the capacitors could run to the other side. Sorry. I was kidding about that.”
I told him I just turned it that way because it sounded better when it is on its right side.
I don’t think he bought it and I’m pretty sure he knows he got me on that joke.
So what do I know about amps and because of that I’m sure I’ll never forget Dave.
He played some great stuff with Ray.
I’ve heard him in Branson but I didn’t get a chance to say hello, but then again I want to give him plenty of time to forget that he got me with that joke.

dave musgrave did a steel demonstration for sho-bud at the vox room in sacramento...early 70's....knocked me out....first totally intimidating experience of many to come!

bo..i used to play at the colorado belle in laughlin with a band called the rangers. my gorgeous girlfriend and i would spend the day out in the desert taking mushrooms, then come back to the nice clean rooms for sex, then do the gig, then hit the 24 hour employees cafeteria to replenish our energy for the next day! ,,,then the keno machines...

It's pretty much the same for me now except for BetaPace instead of mushrooms and the sex is mostly begging and I'm on a bland diet.

For those who don't Bill Baker, he's a fine steel player/musician from Clinton, MS., just outside of Jackson. Super nice guy who loves steel guitar. How's the Rittenberry, Bill ? See ya, my friend! Oh yes, I believe your neighbor is about to either order a new Magnum or purchase my last Sho-Bud I've got left. Thanks for the good word!
