I also have this cane that I bought at a Chinese store........ Not a gun, but you click a little thumb thingie, and it gets very sharp, and very looong, very quickly. Not much good in a gunfight, but against your average Cleveland street thug, a pretty good equalizer! Some days I have to use a cane, and I think it might make me look like an easy target.

I'm too short tempered to carry one.
Although, this topic has brought to my attention that I do need to attach an item on the front of my Mullen.
The sign:
Please don't shot the steel player...He's doin his best...an' darn near deaf!!!

Someone once suggested that the way to eliminate hijackers would be to make it compulsory to carry a gun whenever you're flying. No hijacker is going to take on 400 armed passengers.
By the way, anyone who watches MythBusters will know that there's no truth in the myth that a few bullet holes in a big passenger jet would cause depressurization and risk the integrity of the 'plane. They took an old plane and riddled it with bullets, and couldn't get it to de-pressurize.

Ok....and now the real question......
[how many of you that own a gun and have a permit know how to shoot one[/b]
Owning one is not everything.
Best weapon to take care of burglars and the best gun to keep your family safe is a 12gauge.
Or this one for example.
But don't try it with a 380 or 22....not worth the hassle.
And last but not least.....a gun permit is nice. But if you don't know how to shoot then it won't do you any good.

did you know that an attacker needs only 1.5 seconds to clear a 15 foot distance? You think you can draw that fast?Yea I just hear too many stories here on the news about carjackings and getting robbed..Want to protect myself, and my family.

When I was living in Ct, I applied for a permit at the Police Station and they gave it to me like a week later. That was years ago, I sure hope that procedure changed !
Here in NC you must attend an 8 hour class where the certified instructor makes the call whether or not it is a good thing for YOU to have a permit. 6 hours of class time and 40 rounds on the range and you MUST hit the target. If you cannot show control of the weapon and safe practice with the loaded handgun, NO certificate will be issued. The certificate is required for the permit .
Having a permit is only one part of self defense. Mentioned above is the scenario where someone approaches without warning. A very savvy person in self defense will be aware of there surroundings, maybe not in every instance but in many. I think that many if not all of the local ranges offer classes on this very subject .

Probably because many of us have many things in common that we like to discuss; it is our common love of the steel guitar, though, that has brought us all together as this group. And I think, overall, we're a pretty fine bunch.

I was among the first in Missouri to get one and worked hard to get it passed into law. Rolla Mo is a college town with a lot of middle east students. One of the messages inercepted to Bin Laden was sent from this college. Nuff said...

Hey Joe:
I've only been to Texas 2 times.I found the people friendly and respectful. If they didn't like something they told you up front. No BS!
Try getting lost on the way to a gig in "Jersey City or Newark"!
Make the wrong turn leaving "Philly" and land in "Camden" THATS DANGER !
We need to be mindful "with power comes reponsibility"
Rick
PS: I've always found the steelers on this site to be among the best people anywhere !

I've had a concealed carry permit ever since my daughter was shot seven times by a nut-case with a tech-9 in her office in San Francisco. I believe anyone "authorized to carry" has a responsibility to "carry" to protect themselves and others from the nut-cases out there.
We can only speculate how many innocent lives might have been saved in recent years during those mass killings, if even one person had a weapon in their pocket, their auto, or their desk drawer?

I couldn't agree more with Gene..but
the NC law forbids ( felony) carrying a handgun at..
Schools
Places that serve Alcohol
Financial Institutions
Court Houses
All Govt Buildings
Places where "NOT ALLOWED " signs are displayed
etc..
Pretty much the places where many of the incidents occur !
I am thinking all these places should just post the same signs....
"IF you are legally carrying a handgun, stay out "
"If you are illegally carrying a handgun, pay no attention to the sign "

Tony,
It is getting better here in TN, they are trying to pass a law here where you can carry in restaurants where liqour is consumed as long as you don't consume liquor while you are carrying.
As far as I know you can carry in banks and so forth here as long as it isn't posted otherwise. There are hospitals here that prohibit weapons of any kind.
I don't think that it is situationally appropriate but there are people that OC in churches here without getting any flak, I have seen it.

CHL
I've had my CHL for 11 years now and have felt compelled to carry it on my person maybe 6-8 times. Made me and my bride feel safer a couple of times and other times that I carried I didn't need it but made me feel better to have it on my person.
The handguns are heavy, uncomfortable, and really get in the way of most everything I do but I'd rather go thru the discomfort than not be able to defend myself or family, property, and friends if the need arises.
I too would like to see national CHL permit. None of us would have to fret over laws of other states. As any CHL holder knows, we have to know the laws and live up to them or we may well lose everything we own, if not in a criminal court a civil court. We may lose everything we own by living up to the law too. Depends on what type of judge you may have drawn. A privelege to carry by law and also a nescessity to know the laws....Get a CHL and don't leave home without your weapon of choice, signed Sig Mod. 220...45cal.

I have had a CC permit ever since Okla first adopted it. seldom leave home without it. These days, with all the thugs and nuts running around, I would rather have an equalizer and at least try to protect myself. I always carry even going to the farm, which is out in the boondocks area where a propane truck driver was ambushed and shot. One never knows what situation might happen, anymore.
