Jeff Baxter and Doobie Brothers Steel Guitar
I was not aware until I started playing the pedal steel that the Doobie Brothers music contained many steel guitar arrangements. Jeff Baxter played steel for both Steely Dan and The Doobie Brothers.
Apparently the steel guitar has been a core part of rock music for some time.

Well, I wouldn't exactly call it a "core" part of rock music. It has been repeatedly featured in about a dozen fairly fanous rock bands throughout the past 20-30 years, though. Most times, it's overlooked because the average guy has a hard time telling it (sound-wise) from slide guitar.Apparently the steel guitar has been a core part of rock music for some time.
Welcome to the fold!

If anyone wants the tab to "Pearl of the Quarter", shoot me an e-mail rustlick@aol.com
It's in tabledit format - if you don't have that on your computer, you can download a free sample at www.tabledit.com and should be able to open the tab as an attachment.

PSG and rock
Hi David - I'll have to agree with Donny that the Pedal Steel wasn't a "core" part of rock n' roll, but there were alot of groups that used them . . . Jerry Garcia formed another band called The New Riders of the Purple Sage just to have another group to play steel in . . Always liked his steel guitar in Sugar Magnolia (recorded with the Grateful D.) He also provided the steel part on CSN & Y's Teach Your Children . Rumor has it that he traded his steel playing on the song with CSN & Y's members for their help with 4 part harmonys . . . ah, life seemed a whole lot simpler back then. Also a good one in that same time period was "Sneaky" Pete Kleinow of the Flying Burrito Brothers - - anyone know what that effects box was he used ? I understand it was homemade
The only things in life I truly hate - fleas , fruit flies , and building furniture
