Can anyone reccomend a good book or a great site on the history of the guitar amp? i have several books on working on amps but none on history of them. I'm looking for a book simular to the Gruha's books on guitars. Something that give pictures and specks output and tid bits of information. |

"Fender Amps, The First Fifty Years" is a good one.
Can't locate my copy to give you more info. _________________ LeGrande II, Nash. 112, Fender Twin Tone Master, Session 400, Harlow Dobro, R.Q.Jones Dobro |

Thanks do you know of any books that go into the off shoots of the makers like danelectro made amps for sears and supro made amps for wards. I'm looking for one that runs the whole gambit of that era of the 30's to the 60's.

The best reference I have found is "The Tube Amp Book by Aspen Pittman www.backbeatbooks.com
This gives you a wealth of knowledge of all the major and some minor guitar amps over the past 70 years. Lots of great background into the companies and the people who created them.
There is a "technical articles section" with over 150 pages of tube descriptions, technical specs and great insight by some of the most highly regarded amp technicians in the world.
I have read this book at least ten times and always seem to find some new tid-bit of info that I had missed.
This book is not just about tubes (although over 50 of its 387 pages is about them) but has great info on cabs, speakers and the history behind many of todays industry leaders.
I rate it a full 10 . . . you won't be disapointed. |
