Virus Alert

I got an e-mail today with a virus that was picked up by my virus checker. Sender was listed as John Macy, with 'No Subject' indicated. I haven't had any e-mail correspondence with John for a long time, so I suspect it was just spread through someone's address book. In any event, that's all the info I have, as I deleted the file.

Don't open any attachment you were not expecting, even if it is from someone you know. There's a good chance they really did not send it.

This week I was infected by W32.Klez and W32.Elkern virusus, my virus protection picked them up and put them in the quarentine folder.

Th removal tool is a free download from www.norton.com and takes about 15 minutes to run.

It had messed up my REAL player and did come by an EMAIL which my wife opened thinking someone was asking her a business question.

It's not a bad idea to go up to the NORTON website regularly and download the virus removal tools and run them.

I recieved 2 yesterday,
#1 was from a person I don't know.
(I have the e-mail address and sender's name)

Subject: "My sick sense of Humor.
attachment: Audio/X-Midi;name=Howdy.doc.ser

#2 was from a formite's address.

Subject: "Expressions"

Virus name, W32/Magistr b@MM
also has attachments.

I rather not give the names of the sender's on the Forum,
I think maybe these came from hijacked e-mail address'
Just beware of these Subject Names.
My virus protection caught and quarantined them ,, they're deleted now.

Ken, I have gotten six from him (Dan Dowd) in the past two days and the Norton Anti-Virus caught them. Dan is out of town according to his Bud Jerry Fessenden and does not have his computer with him. WC

I've also received several from Dan Dowd's address, however they show to be from an old email address that he doesn't use anymore. In fact one came to my old email address that I don't use anymore and rarely check.

I'm sure it's another of those address spoofing virii. Norton AV caught every one.

I got one from Dan Dowd,& one from Ray Jenkins. The thing that alerted me was, neither of their addys were correct. They,both,contained "msword" audio files, which I cannot open on web tv. Fortunately,(& I use that term loosely) I AM on web tv, which is "immune" to viruses.
(That's the ONLY good thing I can say about 'em!)

I got one titled "Circleof5ths" that my Norton antivirus caught. I have forgotten the name of the sender.

Tony Prior: It's not a bad idea to go up to the NORTON website regularly and download the virus removal tools and run them.

Guys !! Anti Virus Protection is Priority #1
FIRST take care of your protection then do anything you need to do on the net !!!!!
wether it is sending a mail or visit a website ALWAYS make sure your antivirus software runs, and that it is uptodate before doing anything else !!!

I also got the one with Ray Jenkins name but I knew it was the wrong addy so I deleted it. What does this mean guys? Does someone have a grudge against some of us?

I don't have an anti-virus at all on my computer....never had never will> don't need it...cause I've never gotten a virus on my computer in 7 years......wanna know why???? CAUSE I DO NOT OPEN/RUN ATTACHMENTS!!!!
I've helped alot of friends remove viruses and worms and fixed their computers....because they open attachments.
Meaning....if you have a e-mail from someone(and there are geniouses out their hackin' away that can make a e-mail look like it's from someone you know and just was speakin' to)....and there is no messege saying what the attachment is and why they are sending it and not per your request......DO NOT open it or run it.....if you just have to open attachments or let your e-mail run/open attachments......Just pickup your computer; walk over to the window....and throw it out side...get your car....run over it;....and call it a day.

There is a virus now you can't get rid of, it's called opaserv. If you have had it, you never will lose it, untill you change the IP adress from your computer..
Once you have it, it broadcastes your IP to a dynamic server-network, that sends you a virus random, and uses all ports it can get in. Last week when I cleaned it, I had some Al Quada crap in it!!

Everyone should subscribe to Norton anti-virus with AUTOMATIC UPDATES. It automatically updates when you go on line if there are any new viruses, and it even checks your outgoing email for viruses.

Like Ricky, I've been lucky enough not to have experienced any virus infections in many years of computing on the Internet (fingers crossed, knocking on wood as I type). I do use Norton Antivirus and update it often. But I'd like to point out that simply not opening attachments is often not good enough. Many of the unpatched versions of Microsoft Outlook and Exchange (email tools) *automatically* open attachments like multimedia viewers and players. I believe that Microsoft now ships these tools with many of the automatic features disabled, but for years, they were wide-open invitations and didn't require you to open the attachment explicitly. I attribute much of my virus-free experience to not using Microsoft email tools. Over the years, I've used Netscape Communicator and Mozilla, which are free alternatives to MS email tools. These tend to have fewer "features" that invite and promote viral activity. Just my 2 cents.

I dont know how this stuff is getting around. I have been out of town since monday and have NAV and a firewall on my computer. It also scans for virusus before sending. I have also scanned the complete computer before I left home, including memory and all drives with the latest info from NAV and it did not find any virus's. I am still out of town using my brother in law's AOL which does'nt have my address book so they can not be comming from me. I wish there was a method to trace these things and put these folks in jail for a long time. I am sorry if these E-Mails had my name on them and I also get stuff from other forum members that NAV catches and says they are infected.
