Arizona Jam a Huge Success!!
Our big day in Apache Junction was yesterday, and I want to let you all know that if you were not there, you missed a great one!! We had between 60 and 75 people in attendance, mostly players and spouses/significant others, with 13 steel guitars placed in a semi circle. Big Jim Barron supplies the Band in the Box, cranked it on, and we all took a verse and chorus of each song in succession. What a great bunch of players, including, Hollis Pritchart, Troy Porter, Bob Allen, Jim Barron, Fred Justice, LaRue, Ray Jenkins, Wayne Paden,Hap Young, Jack Francis, Danny Stinnett, myself and others. We even had a lap steel chime in, and I am sorry to say that I didn't get the players name. All sounded so great, and what a terrific time we had. Then special guest Mike Smith brought his equipment in, along with a live drummer, and some bass/keyboard/vocal tracks, and just blew us away with his expert stylings. Many other familiar names in the steel world, like Danny Sneed, Ed Packard, Mark Fredericks,John Rickard,Margie Mays and others were there and we will be planning on their sharing their talent on the next jam. Thanks to Sam Marshall for the rhythm and lead guitar work with us as well.
There were Zums, Emmons', Franklin, Fessendon,Sierra, Rustler,Mullen, all represented. The lap steel was a Gibson BR9, and was a great addition to the pedal sounds.
Great food in the form of biscuits and gravey, with scrambled eggs and coffee was supplied by Mrs. Ray (Dixie) Jenkins. Thanks Dixie, it was great!!
The general consensus among the attendees was that they want to do this again, and eventually become a bit more formalized as a club. I am all for this, but be forewarned that we will be looking for lots of volunteers to help with this. Let's make it a real labor of love.
Thanks to all the players, watchers, helpers, and other interested parties. It was great to be with you for the day, and I hope we can do this again soon. Are you with us?

Please don't think we are having secert meetings or anything but Troy Billy and I discussed our next get together. We decided since Thanksgiving and Christmas were so close we are shooting for sometime in late January.I hope everyone will be in agreement with this.I know it seems a long time away. This time frame will allow us too draw our first sketch of by-laws and produce our Charter.Today I have a meeting with a lawyer who works only contracts, meaning all he does is write by-laws,charters wills, ect.(I think there will be no charge)I can't say anymore than Billy Bob already said. He said it very well. All I can say is a great big THANKS. Ray
P.S.
A quick after thought, all that wish too, send an e-mail too the Dean of our school thanking him for the use of the Multi-Purpose Room. His email is,Larry_Cline@centralaz.edu Dr.Cline will be pleased too hear from you guys. Thanks Ray

Hey Folks,
Thank you for inviting us to a great Jam. Edie and I really enjoyed it. We took a whole bunch of pictures of everybody. We would like to be included to the next one. We also would like to join the association if one is formed. Maybe by Jan when the next one is planned I will have learned enough to bring my steel. Thanks

I had a great time, I just wish I could have stayed longer, next time, If I am in town, I hope to stay for the whole thing, there are a few people I did not get to meet. Maybe someone, if everybody agrees, could put the guest list on the net. May be a bad idea, I don't know, just an idea.
But I had a great time.
Let's do it again, soon.

I just wanted to say I had a great time and want to tip my hat to the organizers, Billy, Ray and Troy. Dixie did a great job, cooking up a storm and feeding everyone. The playing was superb. Enjoyed meeting as many as I could and look forward to the next one to meet the rest of you. Thanks to all of you that had to drive considerable distant, your presence made it really worthwhile. The facilities were really nice also, thanks Ray.
I would like to add my congraulations to Ray Jenkins,Bill Easton and Troy Porter. Also to Big Jim Baron for his part making our Az Jam a real success. Dixie you did a wonderful job putting that food togeather. We had some great players thier, and I'm really looking forward to the next time. Bob Allen

Hey Ray and Billy .Please wait until the second week end of Febuary to have your next Steel Jam and I will be able to make it. The wife and I will be driving out from North Carolina to visit my Brother-in-Law and Sister-in-Law they live in Fort McHave. How far is it from the steel Jam. I will have my Steel with me and might try to play a couple of tunes.I will be retiring as President of the Rhode Island Steel Guitar Association in November as I moved to N.C. .Hope you hold off till Febuary I will bring The In Laws. The brother-in -Law has a couple classic cars and goes to all the car shows. Maybe we can set up my Steel in the back of his 55 Chevy Apache Pick up and ride around playing my steel at the car shows Ha.Maybe some of you know him his name is Artie Todd and his wife is Alice todd.
