Here's an interesting one - the vocalist is certainly not the greatest singer in the world, but a great songwriter, also the song isn't typical for the material he usually comes up with. Smile

Enjoy!

The singer is John Prine...edited to delete two really bad guesses as to the identity of the steel player...I think John McGlothlin has the right answer!

Well I'm not 100% sure but after realizing it was John Prine singing I figured it would be one of the very popular west coast steel players. I sure have learned a lot just from this trivia section...its the most fun place here on the forum.

Yes, John's got it - John Prine with Al Perkins on steel. Smile The track comes from John's album "In Spite Of Ourselves", really an unusual album for him as it features classic country duets with Connie Smith, Emmylou Harris, Trisha Yearwood, Melba Montgomery and more. The "Dear John" track is is only solo track on the album. Featured steel players are Al Perkins, Buddy Emmons and Dan Dugmore.

Kind Regards, Walter
