Yes Jim,
There are some really young players out there.
Austin Stewart is one of them and has been playing shows and doing it well since he was about 6.
After reading up on some of the heroes of the steel guitar, I have found that most of them started when they were just very young children. David Spires has been playing for 24 years and I don't think he is 30 yet. Oh, well, face it! Some of us are just getting old! lol
