H>E>L>P.....some of you know the story of me being away from steel playing for a few years....now I have all equipment to play but am suffering C R S..Does anyone have suggestions on where to go from here...I have lost the touch the enthusiasm the knowledge I once had...and can't find any venues around Conway SC to even go listen to someone else play and get my spirits back up....any suggestions would be most appreciated... |

Pardon my ignorance, but what is C.R.S? It sounds bad.
Edit: If it means what I just figured out it could be (can't remember S**T), just sit down to your guitar and listen to some great steel playing on record. May help. I went through this a couple of years ago after about a 9 year layoff from steel. It will come back to you. Have faith in yourself. That's the best thing you can do for yourself at this point. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . I also went through the same thing about 2 years ago after about a 9 year layoff from playing professionally. One of the best things that helped me get back into the "groove" was finding and joining this great Forum! Even though I don't play professionally any longer I got back into the mode of consistent practice (just about every day), and several months ago started playing with my church band on a regular basis. I agree with what Richard said...listen to a lot of good steel playing on record and be sure to check out the You Tube postings from other Forum members! |

Barry,
Drop me a line sometime. We'll see if we just "kain't" get you up, and runnin' again.
In the meantime, just don't make a bigger deal out of it than it is.
Mental obstacles, and self imposed limitations can be real bummers to enthusiasm, and learning,... as well as overall enjoyment.
Just have fun with it. It's not like you're at gunpoint. (Are you?)
I had quit entirely for 6 years, and thought I never wanted to even see a steel again. Now, after starting up again last spring, I'm having a blast.
I've recently begun a series of articles for an upcoming website that might be "just what the doctor ordered" for you.
Your pal, Dale
Steve,(English)
I got all the way up to the "F", before getting stumped. Can you help? And please do share it with all of us here, I'm sure that others are just as puzzled.....
Thanks Dale |

Yeah Glyn, I actually did get it.
But thanks, just the same. I was just trying to bait ol' Steve into gettin' himself into an uncomfortable spot, and maybe even a little flustered. All in good fun,....of course.
Maybe I'm a little bit cantankerous tonight. Earlier today, one of my colts pitched me off hard into the ground. Too hard for a fat guy, anyway.
In my youth, it was a daily expectation. At 46, it $%*ing hurts like hell. She's about 16.4 hands tall, and I hit the ground so hard, that I actually got cooled, like a cuke, for a short spell. (knocked out)
I'll probably be wearing my underwear on the outside of my britches tomorrow.
Oh, what the hell,... it's bound to happen sooner or later anyway. |

I quit in Nov of 1979 and stayed quit until Jun 1996. I had to put the guitar up again until 2002. What speed I had was gone and CRS on where things were was bad. Some of it has come back but the speed is gone, even practicing certain exercises has not helped so find another way. One thing has really changed............I enjoy trying to play a whole lot more so don't quit. |

Barry, there's gotta be some good steel happenin' at the Alabama Theatre in Myrtle Beach some time in the near future. That's where I watched Tommy Killen backup George Jones just a coupla years ago.
It's just down that new road from you. Check out their website and see who's scheduled. |

I recenty came back after a ten year layoff. I kinda hoped I could pick up right where I left off but it didn't work out like I had hoped. Sooo today, I'm busy relearning, asking dumb questions and rekindling my love affair with my prized Sho~Bud.
I may never play out again and that's okay. What counts these days is how it makes me feel _________________ The only thing better than doing what you love is having someone that loves you enough to let you do it.
