Looks like a show group from the La.Hayride. I think that is Johnny Horton on the right. I can't see the other clearly so not sure.

I'm going to guess Slim Whitman in the two-tone jacket next to Horton. Smile

Could that be Jimmy Day? I know the hair looks too dark, but photos can be deceiving in that regard.

The guy with the suit and tie, could that be Horce Logan, MC for the Hayride? The place makes me think it was in the old show venue down town. Not sure about the hat guy in the back, Tillman Franks maybe.

I think it is Johnny Horton on right, Slim Whitman next to him and the one guy does look somewhat like Jimmy Day but Jimmy was a bit thinner and blonder hair.

The steel player I am, not sure but my friend the Dr. Ralph Sheets would know if he saw this as he was there around that time playing with Jim Reeves, Johnny Horton and others. Zane Beck was around there back then as well, but it is not him.

Johnny Horton on the right, Slim Whitman wearing the two tone jacket, poss. Claude King in the white suit and tie, don't remember the rest of them. Steel player is not Jimmy Day but he is in that picture if I remember correct. The actual photo is a lot bigger and there are about twenty people ( LA Hayride cast ) in it, including Elvis, Joe Clay and Goldie Hill.

Could be Slim's pickers, Hoot Rains and Curly Herndon. Sonny Trammell was also playing steel about that time. Jody.

Jussi is correct in that this is one half of the picture.

Hint: It is the Hayride about '53. The steel player has opened the Sat. Night edition of the TSGA March Jamboree for the last 12 years.

Some of you got some of the names....will name all this afternoon. I will probably post the other half of the pick then. It will be easier to guess.

Have to apologize, the picture with Elvis & Joe Clay is not this one. But Jimmy Day, Floyd Cramer, Jim Reeves, Goldie & Tommy Hill, Billy Walker & his band are there. And the guy in the white suit is Claude King, still don't know who the steel player is Wink but there is another steel player in the photo too and he's Felton Pruitt.

I think this picture is after 1955. As I remember Johnny came on the hayride in 1955. I'm thinking this is '56 or '57. Getting old can't recall all these date real quick. Too many bars and too many stars.

I don't think the steeler was Hoot Rains. He played a Gibson i think and here's a picture of him about the time he and "Otis Dewey Whitman" tore up the nation with "Love Song Of The Waterfall" (and that's another story in itself".

Jim Reeves
Faron Young
Jimmy Day
Bud Isaaks

Close, but not quite:
Horace Logan at the mike
Jim Reeves
Tommy Hill
Jimmy Day
Floyd Cramer
? ( might be listed with the photo but don't remember now )

This complete photo is in the beautiful book that comes with Johnny Horton's Bear Family box sets.
