Super Weekend at the Siloam Springs Show

Post by Jeremiah Hanley »

It's Sunday evening and we just got home from the Siloam Springs Steel Guitar Convention. It was a super weekend! We were so glad to see Larry Garrett able to be there even though he is still a little weak. The crew under him did a masterful job of preparation and making sure the program went according to the plans. They got the right man to MC and Rob Parker was at his best. All the band members did a great job in backing up the steel players. And we heard some fantastic steeling. I'll not start naming names because I might leave someone out. It was an enjoyable weekend.
Thanks SSSGC committee for all your hospitality and hard work in making the 2008 convention such a great success! Fred, we missed you, but since you weren't there, I tried to take your place and eat and eat and eat! Someone called me "Fred(East)". I guess you're Fred (West)! :D Someone came in the Food Room and said, "Are you eating again"? I said, "I'm still eating; I haven't quit!" Seriously, though, we really missed you!

Jeremiah your gonna have to eat my share cause I'm on a 2000 calorie-a-day diet.
I was at 234 lbs the day Brenda took me in to the emergency room with my heart, and today I'm proud to say I'm at 216 lbs with only 16 lbs to reach my first goal of 200 lbs. I will do it!!!! :D
I sure hated to miss the Show there at Siloam Springs this year but doctor's orders and my health won out. I'm getting stronger every day and plan on doing some lite work this coming week. :\
Anyway, sure would love to have been there with you all but I'm glad you had a nice turn out and had a great time, God bless. :D

I was glued to every single set all day long. It is hard to explain to someone who was not there how wonderful this was. The only way is just to bring them to the show next year... :D

My only complaint is not anyones fault but mine...I didn't go both days. :( I picked up my dad this afternoon and headed for Siloam Springs and the first thing he said when we got outside was next year he was coming both days so...next year it looks like we won't be working Saturday! :D I think I've got him talked into the show in Branson in July now. Thanks to everyone involved in making our first steel show an enjoyable one. Wish I could have seen Larry but I don't think he was there today.

Lavelle, you are so right about the show. The center was full, the band was great, more than enough good food and hospitality like nowhere else. A big thank you to Larry, Norma Jean and all the SSSGA putting on a great show, and for allowing me to play this year. I had a blast.

Fred, you really missed out. I saw Jeremiah in the kitchen eating, and he represented you with great enthusiasm. In fact, several of us did our best on your behalf.

If anyone happened to find a Peterson Tuner laying around, I think I left mine on the stage.

Thanks again
Rick

We would like to add our thanks to Norma Jean, Larry and the rest of the staff. They did an outstanding job! Thanks for letting us be a part of it. I wish we could have been there Saturday, since we missed seeing a lot of our friends, but Austin had Coffeyville. We had a wonderful time Sunday, everyone did a great job playing and the back-up band was great as well. It was a really fun day! Thanks again!

I'd like to thank every one of the SSSGC club members for a great show. In spite of having a head & chest cold, I had a great time seeing all the old friends again. I'd also like to thank Bep Morrison of the Sager Creek Arts Center for allowing the club to have it again this year. It'll be her last year there and she put in a lot of effort helping the SSSGC to put on the show! Thanks, Bep! Great back-up band, Buck, Roy, Leroy, DeWain, Clark, Vance, Bob, Larry and Norma Jean. Thanks for letting me be a part of the great weekend! Ray
P.S. Rick, Virgil has your tuner & he sold it to me for $25.00!hehe His music store number is 918-422-5852.

I want to throw a GIANT THANK YOU to the SS club for putting up with me and letting me pick a little. A beautiful setting and the best food in the world. Because Fred wasn't there I finally got to eat some of it! JUST KIDDING!!!!

Great to see Larry up and about. We've been praying for you!

My thanks to "the boys in the band" also. Tremendous musicians that make it a pleasure to play.

I am so glad everyone has such positive things to say about the show. It never could have happened without the help and support of everyone. Donna Newberry and Leah Randolph were the winners of the 50/50 drawing and they both donated it back to the club. Jerry and Donna do so much for the steel clubs. Randy and Dana Stewart (Austin's mom and dad) and little Dalton who is coming on strong on the piano are really great assets to any club. We are all humble for your genorisity of talent and food and just being our friends. Of course the Baxter Spring club came to show their support. Thanks Ray Qualls president of the Baxter Springs Club for all your help. Curt Shoemaker, Ray Qualls, Jerry Roller, Jerry Newberry, Tim McCutchon, Gene Crain,Bobby Garrett, Hank Ruf, Rick Crow,Mike McGee,Allen Cain, and our steel pickers, Jerry Horner, Virgil Pittman, Vance Monday, Mike Spaeth, Gerald Sparks, Lavelle Pierce Marvin Meeker all made it happen. I can't leave out the back bone of the band Roy Rosetta, Dwain Carger, Le Roy Hittson, Bob Dell, Larry King and Mr. Buck Grantham on back up lead guitar. We all know how good he is on steel. I want to thank Donley Harrington, Virgil Pittman , Vance Monday for all their hard work. I can't leave out Lila who was such a big help on the 50/50. Also thanks to Zelpha Ward and Lynn Carney and all the ladies who brought food and drinks. I apologize if I have left anyone out. It wouldn't have happened without all of you. Thanks Jerry and Venda Hanley for the great church service even tho you didn't have time for my song. Be sure to include it in Baxter. My hat goes off to all of you and to the public for their support. We have a date for next year! Thanks to Ben Chesny for the sound and the great job he did entertaining us. What a voice! Thanks Rob for all your help too.

Thanks to the Siloam Springs Club for including us again this year. I had a great time and the crowd was large and a lot of fun to play for. I am sorry we had to hit and run but I had to go on over to West Fork to play the Little O' Oprey. I hope you guys keep calling on me and I hope you can keep it at that great little theater. It is a beautiful place to play and the sound was great thanks to the accoustics of that building and the great job the sound crew did. Also, you can't ask for a better backup band, it was as good as it gets.
Thanks,
Jerry

SSSGC Convention was pure musical delight

Post by Lynn Carney »

What a great opportunity to be together with our "musical family" at the SSSGC Convention again this year. From a fan's point-of-view, the steelers were awesome, the singers fantastic, and the back-up band was simply the best.

To the club, especialy Norma Jean - who was wonder woman holding the world together - well done!

It was musical joy. :D :D :D

As you all can tell by the previous post that I sorta went shorthand with the spelling of generosity! ha ha . Really though I should have said how glad we were that our president Larry Garrett was able to sing a song and enjoy some of the show. Thanks Doris for bringing him back and forth. Keep improving Larry! We miss you.

I'd like to add my thanks to the SSSGC for their invitation to play. What great hospitality and fellowship. I had a great time. Thanks to all the officers and members of this great club. I love playing at Siloam. They were the first steel club to invite me to play their show. I plan on returning as often as you will have me. As previously mentioned the backup band of Roy,Bob,Dwain, and Buck was just awesome. Ben did and outstanding job with the sound and as Jerry Roller said the old theatre has great acoustics. Good to see Larry out and about too. Thanks again.

I would like to add my thanks to everyone involved for one of the best shows and good times ever. I really enjoyed both days, the music, fellowship, food and every thing else. It was an honor for me to get to play with such a great backup band and for such a great audience. It don't get any better than that. I really enjoyed getting to play lead with Buck. He is one great musician and great guy. Thanks Buck. I hope we can all get together again next year and do it again. Thanks to all. Vance and Lila

Hat's off to drummer LeRoy Hittson who played Saturday in the back-up band. LeRoy and his band, the Hittson Brothers, won Star Search back in the day, and are still leaving footprints on the local music scene.

His first time to play for the SSSGC Convention was smooooooooooooth.

Well done, LeRoy. :)
