Instant Epiphone Collection

Post by Mike Black »

I've got a small collection of old Epiphone gear that I'm selling to pay for my frontal lobotomy.
Here's the list and basic pics.
1937 Model M Set, 6 string lap steel and amp. Lap steel is really clean but sports a rewound "Truebalance" PU. Cool 3 knob version. Clean original case. The amp has some torn covering but is pretty clean and complete with both "Detacho" Panels. Handle's even good! Serviced by Skip Simmons Amp Repair with 3 prong cord added. Orignal 1937 Store tag for the set. The Tag marked "AC 1520" was found attached to the cord on the inside of the amp. It means that it's AC only (the amp was offered in AC or AC/DC) and serial #1520. These amps were hand built by Nat Daniel of Danelectro fame and this tag is probably in his hand writing! $900

46 Zephyr 8 string lap steel The steel has 2 holes drilled in the headstock and 4 near the tailpiece. The rest is clean and original. Has electrical problems. As-is $500 shipped

1937 Epi Rocco Model double neck 7&8 string necks formerly owned by Russ Spargo. Orignal and complete, missing some neck binding and some is rotted + a few of the colored position markers (luckily the most of them are white and easy to replace)"Truebalance" Pu's work fine one has a broken mounting piece. The original owner fixed it with dial cord and it works so I left it alone. Includes original owners Rocco Tone Expressor foot pedal and Rocco Bar. This is an EXTREMELY RARE Epiphone model. Beat but Original hardshell case.
Lowered price, now $1500 This thing has an incredibly great tone too. Better grab it before I change my mind! Oh and BTW the serial #s on the Model M and Rocco are only a few digits apart!

Works, changed cord, decal is rough. $240
These are VERY RARE pedals, just ask Jody Carver.

All Plus Actual cost Shipping. Pay Pal can be arranged, but checks are preferred.
If you want any more info feel free to email me and I can email any additional pics so don't hesitate to ask. I will split the stuff up if I've got to.
I wanted to offer this stuff here first since I'd rather donate dough to the SGF than eBay.

E grille?

Post by Ben Elder »

Is there the lightning-bolt E grille under the front panel on the M6 amp? A photo, perhaps?

The one with the flat plate I believe is stock and will work if the cord is changed OR a 1/4" jack is added. I'll repair it or leave it alone at the buyers request.

Hi John, there's standard guitars too!

Bump one last time.
Played the Rocco model yesterday with the Model M amp. It sounded great. TimeWarps ya right back to Glen Echo, MD and the Spanish Ballroom circa 1938. Plus it's gotta be THE rarest Epiphone production steel model.
I removed the rotted cord and installed a 1/4" jack on the Rocco pedal and sold it immediately, not here though. Probably should have kept it since I've never seen another one that wasn't in a book. Talk about a wild tone effect! Unless DeArmond offered a V&T pedal in 1936 these are the first! Epi sure went a long way to get the tone effects though. The pedal has some sort of choke or transformer in it and it's totally different then the other style pedal, which is also a piece of work, that works.

I was asked about the Pickups. Yes they are orignal to the guitar. The Herb Sunshine designed pickup, dubbed "Truebalance" replaced the Horseshoe style.
Here's a jpg with the handrest cover removed.

Also note that the original Mutes are intact and function perfect. I can understand why they got removed. I wanted to yank 'em myself but I'd rather adapt to the steel than vice versa. It's only right!

I've had so many lap and non pedal steels, I don't even remember some of them. This is THE rarest lap guitar I've ever owned and I can't honestly remember even seeing one in the days pre-eBay. Except for Bigsby guitars, it's by far the coolest steel I've ever owned!
