Theresa, Truthfully I like jewel and John, they have their very own style. The other newbies sounded so much like the many here today gone tommorrows coming out of Nashburg daily.. :( I wouldn't be able to pick them out of the many on the Radio. The Time Jumpers I would like to see them be made members of the Opry..

Michael Johns, country, wow, I guess I never thought of that but who knows. Country has no doubt changed and is wide open for just about anybody. Any of them could probably sing country if they choose to go that way. Lots of talent on that stage whether you like pop, rock or blues, they are good. I can't pick the top one since they are all great on any given night.

I think it'll be Syesha, too.

Regarding Michael doing country - I don't think so. That said, I think he could have a crossover hit -

but COUNTRY isn't just singing a country song; it resonates from your heart through life-experiences and a particular attitude that's hard to describe. No doubt, he would sound awesome - but he isn't country.
Just my opinion, mind you. :)

When Michael did Bohemian Rhapsody, it absolutely chilled me to the bone!!! Talk about soul!!

I'm still hoping David A. wins.

I agree Donna,
Michael would have to have that song you could connect with. To me he has the whole package! :)

I voted last night for Carly. Who knows? I love David A. It's really hard this season.....

Hi gals. It is really hard this season. They are all very good. I thought Kristy did an awesome job last night. I really like Carly and I think she will go further in the competition. I know Dave (the rocker) must have something but it just doesn't resonate with me. I like Dave A. and all the women.....go figure.

Well Kristy is gone, darn. I really enjoyed her but as I have stated; they are all good. I have really enjoyed this season because they are all very good and different from each other. It is fun to see each of the contestants bring their own touch to each style they are challenged with each week. I think Kristy is a better singer than Kelly Pickler and we all know how she has done so I believe that she has a bright future ahead of her.

I think the voters got it right this week. Syesha knocked it outta-da-park on Tuesday, as she has done for weeks (IMHO). So, I was happy to see she's safe for another week. David Cook continues to be the most original of the bunch, along with Brook White. These two also seem to show the most maturity and self confidence (not ego-centricity). Good traits in the pro music world.

Andrew Lloyd Weber next week? Uh oh :whoa: Could be a tough week for everyone, especially Jason.

Keep on pickin'!

I got it wrong again. :(
Kristy got the boot, but maybe she'll get her horse back. She got engaged too! :)

Next week will be interesting with the song choices.

I think the kid with the dreadlocks is history.

He didn't fare too well with that Andrew Lloyd Weber stuff, and I didn't fare too well watching and listening to it.

I don't know many guys that can handle much in the way of show tunes - seems to be more for the ladies.

Syesha did great last night, the show tune thing was right up her alley, and the red dress didn't hurt (now this is from a guy's perspective). ;-)

I can't believe my wife and I got sucked into the show this year (it happened one other season - the Carrie Underwood year), but we got sucked in anyway.

I knew I wasn't going to have a stellar viewing experience when Ryan said at the top of the show that theme was Andrew Lloyd Weber.

I kind've look at American Idol from the standpoint of being a cross between a fun game show and a reality show.

And even though they are all pretty talented vocalists when it gets down to about the last ten, I always have to ask myself: would I spend a Friday evening, along with paying good money, to actually drive down the highway to see one of these people in concert?

You can't help but like Brooke, she's a real sweetheart, and strikes me as very genuine - and one of the main reasons she's still in there. But I think she has a good Carole King kind've vibe going, with the right songs she is a fine vocalist.

Carly is very talented, but that armload of tatoo probably cost her some votes, and I think she was massively oversinging this week on "Jesus Christ Superstar."

I think the dreadlocks kid made it through this week because the ladies like his eyes and personality, and as Simon said, he was charming even if his performance was eminently forgettable.

Something to bear in mind when all the pickers on this forum start an occasional thread lamenting how the front man or front woman often gets paid a lot more money than a side man...

Backing musicians

Post by Colin Goss »

We get the program in the UK on satellite - can't say much for the idols, but the backing musicians really are top class.

Unlike the British equivalent, where you never see or hear the individual players (sometimes it's all computer generated) the American shows have some great players.

The steel player impressed us - was that an E9 single he was playing - I thought everyone played double necks.

I was thrilled that Syesha made it through!! She has STAR written all over her!!

Unfortunately, what's written all over Carly may have hurt her. I found her to have an overbearing presence. We didn't see much personality until this week. It seemed like someone suddenly coached her to "have fun" and smile. I couldn't warm up to her. I agree that she over sang Jesus Christ Superstar - even for Broadway!! . . . and PLEASE - can the girl not sing without bouncing her chest???????

I really don't think people are voting NOW based on how well their idol does each week. I think for the most part that everyone has a favorite, and they're sticking by them through thick or thin. I do wonder if voters change and vote for another after their favorite goes home.

Ken, I agree with you about David Cook. I know he has great talent, but he just doesn't do anything for me personally. But, neither does Mick Jagger. :D

Jason has a great following of young girls. I'm and OLD girl, and I really like Jason, too. Andrew Lloyd Weber was tough for him. But I look at it like this - I WOULD follow Jason and buy his records - of course with him doing what he does best!

It's supposed to be about the MUSIC - but we're all human, and personality plays into how we feel about an artist.

I think Brook should be next - but it'll probably be Syesha, based on what appears to be the fan base.

David Archaletta has my vote all the way!!!

Carly's tatoo hurt her, but she can sing! :)

You are so right, Theresa - Carly is a killer singer! From the beginning, I thought she would be in the top two. Yes, we DO vote with our eyes - and our eyes may see different things based on our lifetime experiences. I'm not so sure that the cameras panning Carly's husband didn't hurt her chances. His tattooing is a great art-form, and clearly he touches people through his work, just as Carly touches people with her beautiful voice. But it is hard for many people to look at.

If the visuals were not a part of the total IDOL package then the contestants would be placed behind curtains so you could not see them.

The girl was sorely deficient in stage presence.

Does your mother have tattoos all over her arm? When you choose to do something like that as a personal statement then you have to accept the response of the world around you when you leave the comfort and safety of your own environment and venture out into it. I would say that in the words of Rev. J. Wright, her tattoo "chickens came home to roost".

She should be content to have finished in the top 10.

Bill,
I think deep down she knew that.
She'll be on tour with the others and she should be proud no matter what. :)
