There are only two notes in the C Jam Blues.
G (fifth string open) and C (third string open).

I think I'm gonna start offering a tab course on the head of that tune. |

Jim, I'd offer to help with that, but after The One Note Samba episode, I swore I'd never fall for that again...

John, I told you never to mention the 'One Note Samba Episode' again! Grrrr....
David, John and I are jus' havin' a little fun here. Truth is, the basic melody of the head of that tune really is just 2 notes (G and C, or 5 and 1). What you're undoubtedly hearing is the little fills that some players stick in-between those two melody notes that are ad-libbed differently by everybody. (Paul Franklin's early LP version is particularly nifty; and I'd like someone to tab it for me! Hey how 'bout YOU, John. You owe me one now! ) |

If you play the song in F like it was originally written you would rock off the C note in F maj, Bb 9th, F maj, C7th and F maj. All rocking off the C note, hence C jam blues. _________________ Carter D12, MSA S12, 12 String Custom Made Non-Pedal, Evans FET 500LV, Evans SE200, Peavey Nashville 400, Fender Steel King |
