$5000 Steel on Craigslist

wasn't george sells(?) the guy in the pictures of how to set up a steel in the winnie winston book?
the steel in those pictures was one of his and it looked beautiful...so , though i wouldn't pay $5000 for this one on ebay, i imagine it's a cut above kindlin'!!

on closer scrutiny...6 pedals and 8 string necks...this would be useless to me!

First and foremost, it's a Heinz 57 of Fender, Sho-Bud and who knows what else in parts. It's hard to say it's not a good instrument without trying it first, but a frankenstein like that is not going to be worth five-grand. Maybe $500-700 depending on who wants it. That may even be a liberal estimate.

Heck, if the seller came to his friggin' senses, it might be a good value for someone if they aren't fussy about appearances.

Yup, I'd definitely want this over a 60s push-pull for less money or your very cool Sho Bud for half of this amount, Duane. Harley wheel spokes? Fender pedals?

The whole vintage guitar phenomenon has created a very odd mindset in a lot of people. This too will pass in time when they discover that a lot of the instruments being made now are much better than most of what's out there as "vintage". Anybody wonders why I bailed out on that business, that's why. Anybody for a $2000 Silvertone or Kay that was $200-300 10 years ago?

Speaking of Harley...

I saw an old run-of-the-mill bike going down the road years ago - looked like an old Honda or something - and someone had written the words "Harley Davidson" in the gas tank with an arc welder.

At least he wasn't trying to sell it for double the price of a Harley, eh?
