On a TR ('78)that I acquired recently, I noticed that the vibrato/speed/intensity work only when using the footswitch. Is this the way it should be or should you be able to dial in vibrato at the knobs without using the footswitch? Also, one of the 2 inputs in the normal channel is not active - what would be a common cause of this?

Yes, on the tremolo I believe that is normal. You can create a shorting plug---an rca plug with the two terminals jumpered together----to insert in the trem foot pedal jack if you don't want to use or don't have a pedal. With nothing in the jack the tremolo defaults to OFF.

On the inputs... either the jack is bent out of shape or there's a broken solder joint/component.

Mike; If you're looking for a double foot switch to work in a Fender Twin w/¼” jack, I have a double-switch made up for that purpose.

Thanks for the replies. As far as the vibrato issue -I'm just trying to determine if it only works in conjunction with a footswitch. The Fender manual for TR's on the Fender Amp Field Guide website makes no mention of a footswitch only to obtain vibrato as mine seems to operate.

You need the switch to make it work. The reverb will work without it if you have verb.
