I DONT MEAN TO AFFEND ANYBODY WHO LIKES NEW COUNTRY BUT I WAS WONDERING IF ANYBODY ELSE IS WONDER WHAT IS GOING ON WITH COUNTRY MUSIC THESE DAYS TO ME IT DONT EVEN SOUND COUNTRY I WOULD PAY TO HERE WHAT ERNEST TUBB ROY ACUFF AND BUCK OWENS WOULD HAVE TO SAY. TO ME IT DONT SOUND LIKE COUNTRY IT SOUNDS LIKE 70S SOFT ROCK WITH A TWANG TO IT. AND ALL THE FANCY LIGHTING AND FIREWORKS ON STAGE THATS ROCK STUFF NOT COUNTRY. I MISS THE OLD STUFF ITS REALLY GOTTEN BAD IT THE PAST 6 YEARS LEAST THERES ALAN JACKSON. IM CURIOUS WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY THANKS JAKE.

This subject has been hashed over and over,I agree[just my opinion]this top forty stuff that's called country today sounds [to me anyway] like a very POOR attempt at 70's rock,And there's NOTHING out there that can even come close to say the Eagles,etc,What the industry promotes today is HollyWEIRD sex appeal,By what comes out of Nashville today,It seems there is more Hollywooden heads in Tenn,than in Calif.Some of these young ladies[not all but most]that you see on GAC[great American crap] and the opry are VERY beautiful and appealing,but could'nt sing on key if it was hung around their neck,The same for most[again not all but most]of the guys,if they spent as much time with a vocal coach as they do in a gym working on their abs and biceps they might be able to sing on key,The bottom line is the suits in the music industry make millions with this %$^& and has brainwashed the public until there are millions of people that REALLY DOES BELIEVE that artist such as Chesney,Cowboy Troy,Big and Rich,Montgomery Gentry,are country artist,For the ones that think this is country music,you have EVERY right to do so,support it and enjoy,Just please find another name for it,don't insult the memory of the REAL country artist such as Marty,Jim Reeves,Hank Sr.,Earnest,Patsy,Kitty,Mr. Acuff,Billy Walker,Webb,etc,by calling these contemporary artist country.DYKBC,

CHARLES I CANT AGREE WITH YOU MORE PERFECT WAY OF DESCRIBING EVERY TIME I PASS THROU GAC OR CMT I GET RED HOT MAD I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS THIS WAY FROM TALKING TO OTHER PEOPLE.

Music is Music... There is good, bad and mediocre music in all styles. I too have lamented the passing of the greats of Country Music, But life goes on and the world keeps changing. There are still a few country artists out there doing some wonderful songs. Enjoy them until we all meet up in "Hillbilly Heaven"

Dom,It's more like Hillbilly HELL today,seems to be on a fast track that way.The old saying[what goes round,comes round]I'm waiting for something REAL to come round,may have a long wait,There are real ones out there like Dale Watson,but don't hold your breath waiting to hear him on FM radio or TV.He's just too damn GOOD.DYKBC.

These are just a few.

The younger artists need to get the younger fans into listening to country music. After a while they come around. I know I did. Let's see, Waylon and Willie, Charlie Daniels, Johnny Paycheck. I seem to remember some people thought country music was dying then too.

Jake, I agree with you and Charles. The music now is pitiful, to say the least.

Another gal to check out is Heather Myles. She's pretty good. But then again, you won't hear her on the radio except on Willies Place.

Y'know the country sound is alive and well in Americana. But the lyrical sensibilities are decidedly more folksy than the uptown country of the 40's and 50's or the western swing of the 20's and thirties.

Classic and Traditional Country music is alive and kicking; just not on top-forty radio and TV.

What is on TV is more a spectator sport than music. The video is everything, while the music,though expertly played by great musicians, is merely background ambiance to highlight the young and pretty performers.
What is on radio is so pro-tooled and over compressed, that it's not a true representation of the artist.
That's my observation.

No, but the traditional whiney country E9th style may go the way of the dinosaur.

Perhaps after another couple generations pass on, a future generation of guitarists will rediscover the pedal steel guitar and create a whole new sound. By then the PSG's country stereotype will be gone.
