Lee I am just getting into my Vegas 400,
This is my 2 cents,
I was looking at about 4 Vegas's, All needing some sort of TLC.
I knew going in I would have to update them with the peavey mod kit, and maybe other things as well.
My Vegas I got really isn't that bad for the money, I got a kit in the mail and a new speaker, I need to work on the reverb dep.
So in a nut shell the Vegas 400 is a good solid amp, however you may need to update it a bit, this reflexs it's age, with a mod kit, really no big deal.
The nashville 1000 provided it is a newer one, well
it should be good to go right out of the box.

for what it's worth
Vegas 400 with Ken Fox mod is the best amp useable today, I love both of mine would do it again, it is better than when it was new. Look how many have gone back to the Nashville 400 with Ken Fox kit,Randy Beavers, Russ Hicks, etc, the Vegas has a bigger cabnet and sounds better ,that we heard at Ken's house when A B ed.

Nashville 1000 needs no mod. That alone makes it my choice. Vegas was good in its day.
Nashville 1000 has a much warmer(rounder) sound.
Smooth and sweet! Tubelike, with all the warmth you would want. (assuming that one knows how to set the controls)
People ask me if my amp is tube. When I tell them it is a Nashville 1000 solid state. I get the "no way that is solid state!".....
Lighter as well.
Only improvement the Nashville 1000 needs is the Neo mag.
Good to go!

You can play it stereo by using a MIC 200 12AU7, tube that does the Blac Box thing for less money on the guitar channel, DD3 on left, and BB on the right great sound.

I didn't like my Vegas until I put in the Burr Brown Chipset from Peavey. There was a harshness in those TL072 chips (or whatever the stock IC's were).
I've never found a use for Channel 2 - the guitar channel. Blaaah! That's the channel that needs a revoice. Its useless, but its there. Maybe it would work better with an outboard preamp.
I have the stock 15" BW with the ribbed cone. I heard this was actually a bass or PA speaker. I bet the unit would sound better with PV's newer speaker.
All in all - I haven't felt a need to get rid of the Vegas, which make
