Oregon-Wahington Steel Jam 4/27

Post by Larry Behm »

It is time again for a big steel jam, this time it will be held at Jollies Restaurant and Louge in Ridgefield Washington. (17701 NE Union Rd 98682 360-573-3141) Take the 179th Street exit across from the Clark County Fair Grounds.

April 27th (Sunday)

Kindling will be the backup band, jam starts at about 1:00 just like always. ALL steeler are welcome. We always get about 20 players with many more in the crowd just watching.

This jam has been going on since the late 70's and we always have a great time.

Since Ridgefield is closer to the Seattle/Tocoma area than jams in the past let's see some Washington players, Wayne, Wally, Ben, Dan. You know who you are.

Well Larry, Looks like it's just You, Me, Lynn, Skip, Doug and Harley... :)

Maybe even Pete Burak will stop in with some tips on Travis Picking..

We can all play at once!.

Looking forward to it.

Gigs the previous two Sundays with Larry and Judy. I'm gonna make sure they make this one.

Thanks for remembering me............

Post by Ray Montee »

I'm the most often over-looked or forgotten picker here in the entire northwest but that's okay, I think it was 'me' that Eric was kind enough to mention and that makes it all fine.

Unfortunately, I'll be in Phoenix to attend the sentencing of the jerk that killed my young grandson last November. I'm hoping to drop in and see Danny Sneed and/or others that might be playing in that area.

Hopefully, I'll be able to make the next one. You guys always invest alot of effort into these events and that's what makes attending, such an enjoyable time.

Well Ray, it was actually "Skip Summons", a local guy that's playing heavy metal country, but we know who you are, and aren't forgetting you.

Condolences for the grandson, and we hope the guy gets what he's got coming.

Maybe next time, though I've got some things coming up.

I was planning on showing up, but since you left me out of your post, it now looks pretty dicey. ''

Eric, you sounded excellent the other night. Great tone, great licks.....you even looked semi-human. Call me on Friday. Tony

Well Sunny, I wondered if that would get a rise...

Best night I can remember, and I couldn't even hit one string after another.

It was you guys showing up.

I'll call when I know what's up from tomorrow's "thing".

Thanks with all my heart Tony.

I broke a cardinal rule.................

Post by Ray Montee »

I was grossly in error in assuming that Eric's reference was to 'me' and not someone else.

My mistake was in 'assuming' something when in fact, it was not likely to be. Just seeing 'my name' up there on the marque was simply overwhelming and for that brief moment, I believed I'd finally hit the BIG TIME, to share the spot-light with all of the BIG NAMES in the Pacific Northwest. Hello Ridgefield, WA., and good-bye to Nashville!

Hope your jam comes off BIG, as I'm sure it will. Have a good time.

I'll be there as well, so you got no worries! :D Seriously, I was at the last one and had a ball. The important thing is to not be afraid to make mistakes and hit bad notes. I always figure if I can hit at least a couple of notes on time and in tune I'm doing pretty well.

Well, we'll none of us probably ever make mention on the "About Ray" website, but we can hope..

Maybe if we play loud enough for another thirty years or so... and turn him on to a dozen more jobs...

Huh Gene...

BTW, I'm told that my Current Steel Guitar I got from Rip Edwards and had Mr Marrs retrofit came from the old Ripcord studio years ago. An old dark maple Sho Bud Proff with one knee lever. Bought it off Rip in 85..

Hey You Guys,
Wish I could be there. I will be down your way next winter though and maybe we can have some fun. It will be nice to see all of you guys, I really miss all of you.
Hey Gene Breeden, I didn't know you were a member of the Steel Forum, I just about lost my teeth when I saw your name. I will also probably be down your way next winter sometime and I will definetly stop and see you and another one of my great friends, Bill Wence.
I sure wish I could make the Jam, Larry, I haven't seen you since you were a kid, LOL and Doug Jones too , I think he was three years old trying to play a single neck fender 400 or something like that ;-)
Hope to see you all this coming winter, I can hardly wait.

Gene.

Lenoria Jones is still kicking and would love to have you visit. (I'm wondering if Doug J isn't some distant relative.)

Doug's been at a family reunion over the last month, so there might be an engagement to announce...(Joneses are funny thataway..)

Hi Eric,
Yes, I would love to visit with Lenora. I haven't seen her for 25 years or so and I am looking forward to meeting you too and do some picking. Thanks for the reply.
