A few weeks back, wasn't someone asking the question......if'n there ever had been an Emmons lap steel on the market?

At this very moment on eBay, a ten string Emmons lap steel IS, being offered, just in case anyone wanted to know.

As a side note: Someone is offering an alleged Rickenbacher.....six string, minus the metal headstock logo, the familiar stock horseshoe pickup, the Bakelite knobs, etc. It has been painted. Something to look at for one's own amazement.

I was in the Emmons shop in Burlington, NC about 2 years ago, and they were working on an older 8 string Emmons lap steel.

I've got an Emmons 8-string in black (I've seen blue=painted ones, too). THe pickup is surpringly strong, considereing it's a little surface mount jobbie. And who can resist the atomic fret markers.

My only issue with it is the "bridge", which is just a piece of steel rod -- string pressure makes it want to roll forward out of the cutout in the metal plate that is both tailpiece and pickguard (as well as home to the volume and tone knobs). I block it in place with a piece of wood painted black stuffed between the bridge and the pickup. But it works well overall and looks cool.

Anyone know what kind of wood they used? It's got a good tone with some of that "moan".
