I noted your post, "Enough of this crap!" and closing of the topic, "sticks and stones", shortly after my last couple of posts. Maybe it was my longer one just before the last that did it. I'd like you to know that I received very nice emails from both Reece and Tom about that post, both gentlemen answering some of my questions raised in the post and even thanking me for the reasonable and objective tone of my post. No one has complained about my post or posted anything to indicate I was out of line. Then you end it with "Enough of this crap". I'm as aware as anyone that this issue is getting a bit sickening, but felt that the sticks and stones thread had at least turned past the name-calling into a reasonable discussion. I tried to help a bit in that with my post, but apparantly you thought the tone or subject of my post was so offensive to you that you had to call it crap and close it. I agree with your closing and deletions of blatantly cruel, obscene or similarly obviously unfit threads but I don't believe you were fair with this one. I think you are getting a little too trigger-happy. Yes, it's your Forum to run as you see fit. I'm sure many Forumites will defend to the death anything you do. I prefer to think for myself. If you're going to close threads for no more reason than you have become annoyed by them, that's going too far. |

According to the index, Events and Announcements is for "Steel guitar shows, upcoming gigs, CD releases, new products, etc.". The post was off topic from the start.
I wasn't responding to you in particular, Jim, and I regret that you took offense, but every time one of these things gets started in ends up with people calling each other names. This one would have been no exception, if I had let it continue any further.
Most people come here to read about steel guitar. I feel that I am am acting on behalf of the majority of readers when I close topics that are not about steel guitar. My mailbox supports me in that. The most common complaint I hear about the Forum is that there's too much bickering.
Call me trigger-happy jerk if you like, but the goal of this Forum is to share information about steel guitar. There was very little about steel guitar in that topic. I regret the time I spent reading it, as well as the time spent responding to you here. That time would have been better spent working on my picking technique. Multiply my regrets by the hundreds of others who are reading this, and you begin to see the effect that topics like this can have on the steel playing public.

And another thing. Every time I close one of these topics, the side that was "losing" the argument at the moment cries foul and accuses me of siding against them. I'm sick of this crap! |
