Today is my birthday, born in 1955. I'm gonna celebrate by listening to Big Jim Murphy a bit. While I'm at it, youse can listen along to two of his early tunes. One of these is tabbed out at my web site.

Oops! Should have posted this in the Steel Players section. Anyhow you can hear Jim play a great saxophone on these as well.

How Jim overcame the cabinet drop in his old guitar to play these is just amazing Whoa! !

GREAT STUFF!!!!

Anyone know who all played on that session??

Sounds like Bobby Caldwell on guitar.

I'd like to know who the others were. Anyone know?

Wally's version was super fast and I'll post it if I can find my copy. I think I have it on LP and also on a live CD from the ISGC. Ben Marney also played it just awesome as part of the theme song for Paycheck's band.

Cody, Murph told me that the guitar player was Leon Rhodes. As Murph put it, his "ole hot lick buddy"... Jimmie

Those two cuts were recorded in 1970 with Carl Smith Tunesmith's. Carl carried a 7 piece band with him at the time.

sorry for the delay but happy birthday greg and best wishes from europe.
i was lucky enough to watch big jim live in the late eighties at gabe`s in nashville together with ron sweet.
ì was into bluegrass at that time but this man made an impression on me that lasted ever since.
shortly before his passing i happened to watch redd volkaert in austin and it took a while to recognize
jim who was with him for he`s gotten so skinny.

from the many players i`ve seen in my life he`s in the top twenty for me!
