Wow........what a weekend!
I've got to tip my hat to Albert, Debbie and the TSGA for a great steel guitar show. My wife and I had the pleasure of eating breakfast and chatting with the Talley's......you can't imagine the monumental, year-long effort that goes into the production of this event. I realized that on Monday, when I'm on my way home to resume normalcy, Albert and crew are packing up, settling the hotel bill, and beginning to plan the 2009 show.
The bandstand flow was perfectly maintained despite last minute player cancellations. Nonetheless, the caliber of musicianship was incredible. Usually at steel shows, I get somewhat rummy after listening to 87 individual pedal steel renditions of A Way to Survive, but this show was chock-full of variety, perhaps best exemplified by an impromptu version of Play that Funky Music, White Boy by Joe Wright.
The Sheraton provided an excellent facility for the show. The exhibitor booths were all easily accessible, the restaurant was reasonable and the bar was good (maybe too good!!!). People moaned about the "slow elevators" but that was only a mild inconvenience to an otherwise stellar event.
All in all.....a great steel convention. I find this show to be much more intimate and easier to navigate than the bigger St.Louis show.....I'll definitely be back! |

Are you the Tony Glassman I met in Portland in 1977 that played a laquer Emmons push pull and did some adjusting on my single neck Emmons s 10? If so I have often wanted to contact you. I have fond memeories of meeting you and Larry Behm when I was on the road. I remember what a good person you were. Let me know how to contact you. Bill Bailey |

Hey Tony,
Glad to make contact with you. I left a message on your home phone, and I will e-mail you. Yes that guitar was a 1975 Sho-Bud Pro III Custom built by Duane Marrs. I sure miss that guitar. I was playing with Jimmy Lee Holder at the Nashville West club and I remember one nite there you and Larry and Danny Shields were there listening and I was shaking in my boots. There is a great story I will tell you about how I lost the Sho Bud when I can. Take care my long lost friend.
