When I had my band out a few years ago we used names like
Ivan Yackinholf
Ben Dover
Dick Gizinya
Our old forum friend Don E. Curtis played steel for me and I think Don was Ivan.
I also remember one night on Nashville Now when Mike Snider was asked by Ralph Emery what Mike and Sweetie had named their new son. He replied we named him Richard Edward but we call him Dick Ed for short. Needless to say Ralph turned a shade of red!

I used to work with a bass player who on occasion would go by Buster Hyman. He had a white cowboy shirt with fringe and his pseudonym spelled in purple sequins on the back. I kind of like Faron Colder for a country singer. Faron Warmer in the summer.
Just last week a couple of friends told me I should have a stage nick name, they suggested "Harm". I don't think it'll stick, but I told them they should stay out of "Harm's" way.

Hmmmm.... if I was gonna choose a name, I have no idea, but some of these are really funny.
The only nickname I ever really had was "Blue", and at the time everyone knew me and called me by that.
I've been called Jim Bob a lot also, but always considered Jim Bob Garrett to be the "real" Jim Bob.
Not funny, but hey the topic title doesn't say it has to be funny....
When I lived in Kansas, anytime we played in or near Topeka, anything minus my last name "Phelps".... due to one very infamous Phelps known in that area.... I didn't want to be beaten or killed just for someone thinking I was related to him. I was introduced as "Steelman Jim" most of the time in Topeka.

oh yeah I forgot;
at one point we were gonna do a Buck Owens "tribute"show and call the backup band the
" *uckaroos" (asterisk-uckaroos)
I was supposed to be "Schvitzen Schlitzer" on "schteel guitar"
and we were gonna have
Crystal "Brandi" D'Cantor guest vocalist on the Susan Raye parts
it was an alcohol fueled discussion in the green room one night deep into a tour- never got off the ground

Yeah, that was his real name.Bob Hickish wrote:b0b
that wouldn't have been Mr. Lucky Strike would it ?
He always went by LSMFT
On another note, our old friend Porter Fawcett, may he rest in peace, had a sweet dog named Rusty. He didn't realize until one day when they went to the vet that he had named his pet "Rusty Fawcett".

I've used Jake Foxbreath.
Here in Austin, there's a drummer that goes by Rusty Traps. I dunno, it might be his given name.
Another Austin musician used to have a listing in the phone book as "Lee Melone"
Oh yeah, there's a Urologist in Austin who's real name is Richard Chopp. Anyone for a vasectomy? Now, there's a scary thought!
Keep on pickin'!
