The article suggests some brand new music players, digital photo frames, and so on. Perhaps a good idea to virus scan a new one before using it.

I always recommend keeping an up-to-date anti virus program running, which has a real-time resident scanner. These programs will intercept viruses before they can be installed and may even abort the setup program, if the viral component cannot be divorced from it.

And, make sure your anti virus definitions are checked for updates automatically and manually, often, on an hourly basis.

Of course, I agree that it's a good idea to have a fully updated virus scanner set to scan anything and everything as it's connected to the computer.

But in case someone doesn't do that - a word to the wise on these peripherals. Scan anything you hook up. Nothing is guaranteed safe.
