John, they're Kline tuners. The guitar was made in 1978 and was the 3rd one, which I found out recently. Originally it was made for Ralph Mooney, but he didn't like it, so Red Rhodes got it, and he didn't like it either. Back then, I was just getting started and would buy anything that was black and silver, so I bought it from Red. I also had a single neck Emmons and even though I couldn't play well enough to save my life, I could tell that this was a particularly bad sounding guitar.

I had access to the machine shop at Warner Bros. and I made aluminum fingers to replace the pot metal ones, then I made aluminum necks and welded them to the changer housings, then following the logic that pot metal is bad, I wanted to replace the keyheads. Kline guitars, graciously, was willing to sell a couple of keyless heads and I installed them. This gentleman gave me the ultimate compliment by saying, "sounds like you cleaned up this one."

Does anyone know why some Pro 1s have the logo (Pro 1) on them and others dont. Was it just a year of production thing ? I have the round front early 70s Pro 1 with the logo

Richard,
That's because Sho-Bud made 2 sgl neck models for awhile in the mid-70's.
They made the ProI, and the 6139. The 6139 was an older model that started out as rack and barrel and got upgraded as time went on to 2-hole pullers, first with barrels, and then with nylon hex tuners. The only difference between the two models was that the 6139 came with only 1 KL, and was minus the ProI decal.

Here's my 6139 that I bought new in 1972.

And while we're at it, here's my SuperPro.

Here's the BOMB. First year LDG('73) barrels behind two hole pullers--single raise/single lower. Original coiltap pickup----------tone and sustain for days, and used on many recordings. Played through a '71 Fender Twin Reverb non master volume with Jan Philips 6L6 GC power tubes. Owned by Ricky Davis. (picture posted with permission, of course, AH-HA!!) Of course, this is MY living room, 'cause Ricky and I swapped guitars for a few months. Ricky's amp and my amp are nearly the same, except I favor the Altec 418B's and Ricky favores the JBL D130's and K130's. We both have the green Rick Johnson cabs, inspired by Lloyd Green. Thanx for the inspiration, Lloyd!!
We still sound like us, though!!
