Topic: Help with schematics? |

A friend just rescued an old Garnet tube bass amp from a school band room. It's got 2x 6V6 power tubes, and I think it might make a great guitar or steel amp.
Can anyone help me with the schematics? I'm basically just trying to compare this Garnet to a Fender Deluxe, to decide if it's worth spending any time/money on. I could snap a couple photos and email. |

| If you google Garnet amp schematics you'll get some hits. Which model is it? 2 6V6's will give you 15 to 20 watts of power.Be enough for some situations, for some people, some of the time...Jerry |

I should be more specific... I have the Garnet amp book at home with all the schematics, as well as a Fender book. I just don't know enough to see beyond the obvious differences/similarities!
I'm thinking of this as a potential small gig/recording studio steel and 6 string amp. |

| If you can do the work yourself, it might be a worthwhile project. If you have to pay somebody to do it, that's different. Tweed Deluxe is a pretty straight forward circuit, Deluxe Reverb is a lot more complicated. You could start by putting in fresh tubes, and go from there. What speaker is in it? |

| It's a 15 inch Canadian-made something-or-other. I'd probably convert it to a head, and use it with one of my other amps as a cab. |

one of my band members has one of these garnet amps that i use when we practice at his home. I think it is an "enforcer", It sounds very fenderish. its plenty of power for practice and i think would be fine in a small club. I get a little breakup when i push it hard with my u12, but it sounds better with my LDG. I have tried to buy it from him, but so far no luck.

I haven't actually heard it yet, as there is no fuse or fuse cap, it's at a tech's right now. He's going to see if he can get it to fire up...

| The top preamp schematic is not Fender-like, the bottom one is very similar to a blackface style preamp, except for the midrange control. That's different. The phase splitter is similar to mid 50's Fenders, aside from the 12AU7 tube, and the output tubes are fixed bias, say like a 6G3 Deluxe. So there's a bit of everything there. I would try the amp out, with a good speaker and new tubes, and see how it sounds before making any changes. From the schematic, it looks like it might sound pretty good as it is...Jerry |
