I have been noticing on the bandstand these days what a positive influence Chuck Campbell, Lonnie Bennett, Robert Randolph and the rest of the guys have had on my playing. That style has added a whole new voice and perspective to the steel. The role of the steel has changed in many circles as a direct result of those guys. Its pretty amazing to be in a time period where I can watch it happen.
The problem is that it is bad enough when a producer knows who Lloyd Green is and wants something like that. Now producers ask me if I know any of that Robert Randolph stuff. Yikes !

It's incredibly exciting to witness the impact the Sacred Steel community has had on the PSG. I'm personally grateful to them for my own renewed interest in the instrument.

The best thing about the Sacred Steel players is their focus on creativity and self expression.
When I first learned pedal steel all I wanted to do was sound like Buddy Emmons and Tom Brumley.
After playing with Sacred Steel players all I want to do is find out what *I* sound like. |
