50%, ok I'll concede..Carries deal is 50%.

What did she have before the 50% deal?

How much did she put into the deal to get the 50% ?

What were her muscial career earning before 50% of millions ?

What should her deal be with NO financial investment ?

1. She had control of her own life.

I'm 100% sure that Tommy and I will be splitting a bag of popcorn . . . oh, probably 50/50 while watching American Idol tonight.

He'll want 80%, but I'm standing my ground on this one, by golly. If he were not here, I could have 100%. It would be ALL MINE. But, I think I'd rather have him here.

So 50/50 it is.

Thank you for posting that link on the previous page. It confirms what most music professionals have been aware of for years. This show is a scam that takes advantage of idealistic young people. It is designed to make the Producers rich... very rich, while the winners get a raw deal.

Are you guys speaking for Carrie Underwood?

I guess though you are right, she could have just stayed home and had a nice 9 to 5 career and played a few gigs around town now and then for her $35 share of the band pay, and yes, she gets to keep 100% of the $35, that would be true, she woudn't have to split her $35 with Simon Fuller.

You are so right Donna. They actually just played David Archuleta's performance on our country station this morning and it was awesome. He has some Vince Gill qualities to his voice. He will be huge no matter what genre of music he sings. I have it recorded on my DVR so I can't wait to watch his performance tonight.

You know what I think. I think 80% of television today is idiotic and a waste of valuable time. It's an insult to the viewing public. Unfortunately, the public eats it up. I don't understand the attraction. These shows make fools of the viewers, and the viewers love it. They make fools of the contestants, and they love it. Don't ask me about any specifics. I have never seen this show, or any reality show. I have no idea who Simon is, and I don't care. Turn off your TV and do something worthwhile with your time. Or at least find some programs worth watching. Your brain is going to rot... you've been warned.

I'm usually only interested in the girls on Idol. If it featured country music I'd pay more attention to the guys since I tend to buy more music by male country singers. There's very little of the music served up by either group that I like enough to buy, but both aesthetically and musically I prefer what the girls have to offer. Last night I only watched snippets...and no one impressed me.
To those who are gnashing their teeth and wailing in protest over the show, no one is recommending a steady diet of this stuff. It's actually the only one of its kind I'll sit down to and that's just because, undeniably, some very talented people take flight there. As far as the exploitation factor...sure, I don't doubt it a bit. But promoters have been bilking performers for how many years? It may not be right but there's not much new so why single out this show?

We haven't had broadcast tv or cable in about 4 years. We really only use the tv setup/surround for watching dvd's that we rent online (great deal is you love movies). Until recently... I decided to make an antenna from an old string of Christmas lights to tune into the Superbowl. It's still there. And the only channel we get is Fox.

I can't believe how much garbage is on tv! It makes me remember the reason why I unplugged the antenna in the first place: too many commercials! That's why we stick to dvd's, no commercials.
I really don't have a problem with tv shows. Some are funny and I appreciate a lot of the writing that goes into some of them. It's just those dang commercials and there seem to be more than I remember from a few years back...
Anyway... (end of rant)
This is about American Idol.
We watch American Idol. It's the only show we watch. I love it. I think it's hilarious. I see a guy that was in a boy band like N'Sync trying to be a rocker with leather pants and long hair. It doesn't work for me. It's not a real image for him. He might've had some credibility until they talked about him being in a boy/girl Britney Spears opening act... It's just too funny for me!
We only watch the performances, not the judging on Thursdays. We decide who we liked and who performed worth a d@mn. It doesn't really matter in the big picture. It's just a show where the mute button gets pressed during commercial. Not to be taken too seriously by some folks, but some folks do. To each their own.

David Archuleta is going to be the American Idol this year. He's 16? Wow.

I was able to get through 40 minutes of it with the family and then I had to seek solace in my workshop/music room.

NONE of them impress me very much except for that little pixie fellow with the cute lips and hairdo to match. Daniel Noriega---is his Dad in the cocaine trade or some president of a banana republic?? He is my new Sanjaya. I loved the promo about him being in a band in the 9th grade and playing one set and then splitting up caused they "sucked" as he put it.
The fact that he is in the top 10 to me legits everything that Idol is about. Go Danny!!

I certainly do not speak for her and never have. There was a fellow once who talked about gaining the whole world and losing your soul. That's sort of how I look at it to get chained down to an Idol contract, but you see I am not speaking for Ms. Underwood.

Think about it. She sings a gig and for easy math lets say she makes $100. Simon gets $50 right off the top. The Government takes over 50% because of her tax bracket so lets give them $30. So she has $20 bucks left and she has not paid the promotors or the band or the bus driver or any of the other hangers on that these stars have to pay for. What's she end up with...$5 or $10. Too bad she has to trade so much earning potential and control of her career just to be "discovered" by the Idol-ators. I would not be surprised if there comes a time when she will have had her fill of them. I do like her a lot and my son has a pic of her in his room.

You know Elton John did a solo tour a few years ago just so he could make some money. It was costing him money out of his own pocket to tour with his regular entourage. So he just did a tour with just himself and a piano at every venue.

To varying degrees they all bring skills to the table, which means, Song Choice, Song Choice, Song Choice is as important at this stage of the game as Location, Location, Location, is to Real Estate.

The “Queen” song – yes it’s a difficult song to sing all those tricky intervals perfectly, and he did a very good job, but that doesn’t mean it’s the right song to sing or that people will like it.

The kid who sang Long Train Runnin’ also did a very good job, it just wasn’t a song that made his performance “special.”

I thought most of the performances although technically fine, were sort of boring until Papa Was a Rolling Stone. I also liked Chikessie’s performance. I apologize for the spelling, and not knowing all their names yet.

David Archuleta is by far the best of the guys at this point, and it’s hard to IMAGINE him not making it to the finals, or at least very close. Even his age aside, this was a terrific performance.
It reminded me of Clay Aiken’s Bridge Over Troubled Water, which was a highlight of that whole season.
It’s difficult for me to think of a singer so good, so young, except of course, Leann Rhimes who was/is phenomenal.

I’m expecting they’ll be some super performances tonight when the girls take the stage.

I'm sure they're excited to be 'on television'; too many people are so infected with this shallow desire to be a part of the 'celebrity obsession' that they lose sight of reality.

Take a look at TV on any morning and watch those idiots gawking through the windows and waving at the cameras through the plate-glass windows; not even sub-zero temperatures will deter them from trying to get their out-of-focus image on the nation's screens. 'American Idle' (sorry - Idol) is no better than any other 'reality show' - it's like 'Dr Phil' with a backing-band!

Thank goodness for Public Television, at any rate....

When I was a kid, I went to the zoo with my dad. In the monkey-house, I saw this one chimpanzee that was eating his own doo-doo (for want of a better word). I asked my dad why the monkey was doing that. He said he didn't know.

It's very unfair to compare these IDLE contestants to doo-doo eating monkeys... it gives monkeys a bad name.
