Wasn't the Newhall record label Cliffie Stone's label? Jack Tucker, Eddie Drake, Smiley Monroe, the Leightons all recorded on that label.

Now,I know at lease a 1000 more of you out there that Mr.Cliffie Stone Has helped with work on your Steel Guitar,Drums,Lead Guitar,Bass Guitar,Piano,Fiddle and so on as well as songwriters & Artist.I could name all of you, but,I know that would be un-comfortable. Indeed it would pencil the proudness of what I know why I miss Cliffie.I don't see any fingers jumping for joy.I'm begainning to understand why the steel guitar forum pros sit back and write nothing until it hits their name. RIP Mr.Cliffie Stone your true loyal friend, Leo J.Eiffert,jr.

Wasn't Clifie's Tv show called Hometwn Jamboree? He had Jimmy and Speedy and a host of other great players and entertainers. I also think thats where Tenn. Ernie got his start as well. Speedy told one time that Cliffie played string bass on most of his and Jimmy's recordings. Cliffie was an icon in country music. Bobby

Go see Cal, go see Cal...

Post by Ron Whitfield »

LJ, did you ever catch Cal Worthington's TV show? Did Cliffie have anything to do with that?
I wasn't old enuf to watch TV when he was putting good music to work. He was just hawking cars with those classic corn commercials when we got a TV.
I still remember him strolling into Chris and Pitts for dinner. Rather tall dude.

What can I say? It looked like Cal and he acted like Cal. And I certainly was surprised to see him hit the door looking so big time in such a homey restaurant, even tho it was his stomping grounds (and the food was great). But that's a great bit of 'I did not know that' info you ventured, LJ, thanx!

Now that's a mission I can applaude and get behind. What a rich musical history the South/East area of Los Angeles has from the post war era. Just the Bigsby/Travis/Western swing perspective is incredibly worthy of an epic bio of some sort to document the unique people and circumsatnces.
I grew up in that neighbor hood and would have loved to have been part of that scene, but I was only ten when Bigsby died, in '65.
Thankfully, we have the likes of Deke Dickerson and his small cadre of practicioneers that are carrying on the style and tradition in grand form.
So, LJ, I wish you the utmost success in your endeavours, and I for one urge you to expound on your 'been there, done that' experiences and your mission to a further extent. .

On Ebay, there is a seller - rockabillydj - that sells CDs of old 50/60s radio shows, and has Cliffie Stone and the Cowboy Hit Parade Show, from 1/9/49 up right now, cheap.
