I just got an e-mail from Mike P saying his new CD of Spanish classical music is done, but:
Quote:
I'm torn between calling it "Spanish Steel" and the title of one of the pieces it contains: "Capriccio Espagnol." Please tell me which you prefer.

It only seems fair, and most helpful, to kick it out to the great unwashed here so we can help him become even more rich and famous (than he already is);
The Tonite Show, groupies, champagne, cocaine & Cadillacs - etc.

My concept title would be either:
"Spanish Strings of Fury", or:
"Strings of Spanish Fury."

In the cover shot Mike will be dressed in a matador costume and standing astride his purple MSA in a full-tube surfing position (all Californians surf). Since "Spanish Steel" implies Toledo, where they made some rawkin' swords back when, maybe Mike can be waving a sword around in the picture too. We could even throw in a couple of those flamenco chicks with castanets (like in the "Crossroads" movie) and maybe even a bull or two - this concept is so rawkin' some bull could only make it even better. Ha! Top this!

(I will even work on commission only; share the wealth - etc.)

I sorta like "A Flurry of Spanish Strings"...

Guys, Here is my situation/dilemma.

First, I gotta say that the best things about playing steel are the people I’ve met and the friendships I’ve formed. I’ve never experienced the camaraderie that characterizes this community. Lat time I attended the convention I missed half the show, because I was seeing and talking to so many friends. This forum is just part of that. We have a real community, and I’m not just honored and proud to be part of it, I love being part of it.

But as I’ve stated before, my ultimate goal is not to introduce classical music to people who love the steel guitar, but rather to introduce the steel guitar to people who love classical music. Regardless of whatever me personal feelings toward you guys may be, I’m trying to reach a different audience: the classical music audience. And in that community it is fairly commonplace to name a CD after one or more of the pieces contained in the recording.

Capriccio Espagnol is very well known among classical music lovers. They would instantly “get it.”

If I wanted to just market the CD to you guys, I’d call it “Steeling Spain.” But that title wouldn’t fly with the classical music people. Just as calling it Capriccio Espagnol might not attract some steel players.

It is less common, but still perfectly acceptable to name a CD after the composers represented therein. (Joe Whatshisname plays Mozart.)

Right now, I’m thinking of a somewhat lengthy title that would hopefully satisfy everybody.

“Spanish Steel: Music of de Falla, Rodrigo, Albeniz and others.” The second half of the title would be in smaller letters.

I think that combined with the words “Michael Perlowin, pedal steel guitar” and the picture of me playing the steel dressed in a matador’s costume will do the trick.

Here is the still unfinished picture in it's current condition

Ooh, ooh, here's one with an apt Spanish ring to it:

"The Return of Don Quixote: More Tilting at Windmills"
.

(It might be subtle, but I'll bet the classical audience will get it...) Wink
