A friend sent this to me today! Very moving and the soldier singing has a very good voice! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! Ray
TURN UP YOUR SPEAKERS !!!!!

This soldier video is new and different. It is moving and heartwarming. Enjoy and pass it on! Three soldiers wrote the song and put this together in their 'free time' over there. The Singer needs a Recording Contract when He comes Home!

Very nice, indeed.

Serving soldiers are doing a job they have no choice but to do. This song is like a movie full of sentimental jingoism. Be proud of their courage, but don't glory in this illegal pointless war.
9/11 revenge is not an excuse for the murder of innocents. Plenty of the guilty have died, but more innocents have paid too. I believe this would be better discussed in `the other place`.

Arch.

So Arch, you think this is better discussed somewhere else, but only after you've posted your controversial opinions here first. Sounds open-minded. I take great offense to your statement, but I'm going to leave it at that.

Thanks, Ray.

The main reason that I posted this is because I have two sons that have served in the war and I'm very proud of them. One of my sons was injured by an IED and spent 2 years of surgery to make him ok again. He received a purple heart and is drawing 75% disability. My other son just got back 2 weeks ago after serving his 2nd tour over there. Both of my sons were doing their duty as soldiers, just as their father and grandfather before them. I just thought that this was a very good video written and sang by soldiers who are serving there. No politics was meant to be involved. Just being a proud parent and a veteran myself. Ray

It's not always easy to know what people will take as political or even religeous. I've made mistakes in that area myself. I can certainly see why some of us believe that this video has strong political overtones to it. I can also see how someone who isn't accustomed to dealing with politically sensitive people might have missed it. Artistically, I find the song, the rendition and the pictures to be artfully crafted and moving. I can understand why you wanted to share the piece.

I think this topic should have been quickly closed. Because, whether purposely or unwittingly, it invited just what is going on now. My prediction and hope is that it will be closed before too much more of this goes on. Or maybe we can all just heed Michael Douchette's words, "Some things are better left unsaid." I will heed them now and say no more.

You know the song doesn't have anything about drinking or smoking or running around with wild women. Its not a protest song, its just about a lonely soldier in a foreign country thats missing his family and doing the job that he's paid to do. He's doing his duty in the armed services just like you do if your from England or Scotland or wherever! Why can't you just enjoy the guys voice as he is a good singer. Why close something down when there's only a few of you thats offended? All you have to do is not watch it. Ray

Ray,

I agree with you. I thought the song was great. It wasn't meant to start anything. I told an immigration joke in the humor section a couple of weeks ago and it got locked because of too many "bed-wetting" liberals on this forum.

If you don't like the USA, then piss on you.

I'm not offended by the song/video at all, I have no problem with that.
What offends me though, is comments like this:

Quote:
If you don't like the USA, then piss on you.

I've always felt a close friendship with America, but like all good friends I speak up when my friend does something I consider to be terribly wrong. That's what good friends do.
Now, if my friend's response is similar to the one above, I walk away and don't spend any more time on that "friend".

This is a forum where I hope to be able to communicate with fellow steelers without having to think about each members political and/or religious preferences. Especially in times like these, where everything seems to be getting more and more polarized, it's important to have places to meet and talk about the things we have in common, not what separates us.

I hope this thread gets closed before it gets really ugly.

Steinar

Steinar,Your right, this would not have started if not for the two very demeaning comments made early on ,there was no call to do that,I could not keep my mouth shut about it,I would NEVER say anything about some one home country[no matter what I thought]on a forum like this,That was absolutely uncalled for.DYKBC.
