Songs with city names in it

Post by Johan Jansen »

With our band Cash On Delivery www.cashondelivery.org we are planning a theatre-tour that has as a concept that there is a journey from Texas to Tennessee. We like to play (country)songs that are somewhere connected to cities or regions or states. example: San Antonio Rose, Georgia, Memphis Tennessee, Sweet Home Alabama
Please, help me out with some songs.
Thanks a lot!!

"Midnight in Montgomery" Alan Jackson-the song also talks about Mobile, Alabama when Alan says "I was on my way to Mobile for a big New Year's Eve show.

It seems like I can think of another song about every 10 seconds. I don't know how long that can continue, but I think it would be well over 100 before I started slowing down, though I'm not actually going to put that theory to the test.
Here's a few I don't think I've seen mentioned yet:
By the time I get to Phoenix;
Country Roads;
This land is your land;
Take it easy.

Haven't seen these yet. Some are well known, and some are - well let's just say not exactly household names.

- Amarillo, Ooh Las Vegas, Sin City - Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris, FBB, etc.
- Please Come to Boston - Dave Loggins - now I think it's been done as a "country" song by someone
- Philadelphia Lawyer - Maddox Brothers and Rose, and others
- San Antonio Girl, West Nashville Boogie - Steve Earle
- South of Cincinatti, Streets of Bakersfield - Dwight Yoakum
- Moffett, Oklahoma - Charlie Walker
- Amarillo, Texas - Freddy Weller
- Milwaukee Here I Come - Porter Wagoner
- Almost to Tulsa - Buddy Charleton (instrumental)
- Kansas City Blues - Ernest Tubb
- Cincinatti, Ohio - Bill Anderson, Connie Smith
- The Galveston Rose - Hank Snow
- Chattanooga Choo Choo - what western swing band hasn't done it?
- Tupelo Mississippi Flash - Jerry Reed
- The Philadelphia Fillies - Del Reeves
- Night Train to Memphis - Roy Acuff, Webb Pierce
- Streets of Laredo - Marty Robbins and others
- The Kansas City Song - Buck Owens
- 21 Miles to Lake Charles Prison - Johnny Paycheck
- Tupelo County Jail - Webb Pierce
- Downtown Modesto - Merle Haggard
- LA County - Lyle Lovett
- Nashville Wimmin - Waylon
- The Battle of New Orleans - Johnny Horton
- City of New Orleans - Steve Goodman, Arlo Guthrie (ok, it's a train)
- Tulsa Queen - Emmylou Harris, Rodney Crowell (ok, it's a boat)
- Nashville is a Groovy Little Town - Tom T. Hall
- Long Gone John from Bowling Green - Hank Thompson, Hot Rize
- Helena Montana - Terry Allen
- Eddy Arnold - Texarkana Baby

Not exactly cities - but Tennessee by Jimmie Martin, Louisiana Man by Doug Kershaw, Kentucky Waltz by Bill Monroe, lots of others like that.
