Can anyone identify this steeler with Johnny Paycheck? I am sure I saw him preform W/johnny a few times back in that era but a little too much "Blue Haze" in my past to remember

Great stuff.
Prompted to look at this video, I discovered yet a different youtube member with 16 - count 'em, 16 - live Paycheck videos with Jay Andrews on steel, all from a single live show, I assume late 90's, early 00's. Git 'em while you can, these were all posted in the last month. Johnny is one of my absolute favorites, and seems to have always been blessed with fine steel players. |

| Big Jim Murphy was a huge influence on my steel attitude back in about 1980. He was touring with Paycheck, and I saw him several times, finally meeting and talking with him behind the Saddlerack in San Jose. He said his favorite work that he had done (up to that point, I guess) was with Carl Smith. I was able to tape the show since it was broadcast on the old KFAT radio out of Gilroy CA. Man, those were the days. He played an absolute killer C6 break in "I Can't Hold Myself In Line." Too bad we didn't have CDs in those days because I totally wore that tape out. |

| the first time i saw jim was at the great american music hall (?) in san francisco....playing steel and sax with vassar clements.......need i say more...blew my mind..hillbilly jazz..wow and far out! |

| JP (Donald Lytle) was a decent steel guitar player himself. He also used to play bass (with Porter Wagoner) when he went by the handle Donny Young. Great entertainers, Big Jim, Johnny, Porter, they are with the Angel Band now. |
